I think its safe to say that for the majority of players seeing the mystery boxes kupowers come up after the tablets are found offers a resounding sigh of disappointment. For most of us these random after battle chests are usually just a minor distraction that rarely offer any truly useful gains or advancements. So, an idea occurred to me recently.
What if the mystery box caskets offered an experience point reward?
Similar to the exp chests in Abyssea these chests would automatically give experience points instead of temporary items. Maybe even use the new red chest designs from Abyssea to house them. Obviously, I wouldn't want to make the 1-30 leveling process any more idiot proof that it already is, but I was thinking of this as friendly little boost for the players that don't just mindlessly leech from 30 onward.
Think of it like this:
Level 40-49 Mobs would offer up a potential gain of 100-500exp.
Level 50-59 Mobs would offer up a potential gain of 250-750exp.
Level 60-69 Mobs would offer up a potential gain of 500-1000exp.
Level 70+ Mobs would offer up a potential gain of 750-1250exp.
Of course all the numbers and level ranges are up to adjustment depending on the frequency of how they drop, maybe calculating in player vs. mob level, only dropping from exp giving mobs, etc.
And, to add a little more on the realm of useability, I'd add in two more changes to the existing brown caskets.
1.) I'd like to see these chests drop the Dragon's Chronicles and Miratete's Memoirs scrolls.
2.) Change these scrolls into exclusive items instead of rare/exclusive items to allow players to obtain more than one scroll of each at any given time (of course still retaining their no sell/trade/bazaar status).
As it stands, these chests have small limited use currently outside of the occasional free temp item or a vendor sell-able drop. And mostly people tend to just ignore them and move on to the next monster to fight. The mechanic of these chests receives very little use once we leave our soloing levels behind and I'd love to see them given a small bit of new life.
Just an idea.
