Hey guys i have been a ffxi and i have two main characters on one account and with only having one Server side macro save i can only save one characters macros, and sadly i do have some bad luck and having to reformat my computer once every year or so its really exhausting to deal with taking about 2-3 days to make the characters macros. i hope this gets some traction and square looks into adding another macro save. what are your guys thoughts. would you be still playing if you lost your macros yearly? it sure drains the mental for me that is.

I've never "reformatted" my PC since I built it years ago. It is not something you really have to do on a periodic basis. Regardless, backing up data is a thing. While the server side method is a thing (and there are actually four slots, not just one), you have many other options.

In particular you can have more than one drive on your PC. Resetting or reinstalling Windows does not delete data on any drive other than the one you install it on. Simply back up your user data to another drive, or to a USB stick, or wherever else that isn't the drive you install your OS on.

If you prepare smartly, you should never ever lose your macros even if you want to torture yourself with repeated OS reinstalls. While some people do still do this sort of thing, it is a myth or superstition. It is not necessary, nor is losing your data when doing it necessary.

It is pretty simple to back up (regularly) anything you might want to have after such an operation, and that can be done for the macro files as well, on, say, an USB stick or any other drive (or even a "cloud" if that is one's thing...).

It's not even necessary to go looking for the files manually, since a simple method for that was added a while ago into the Final Fantasy XI Config utility, under the "Features" tab: In-Game Settings, which one can use to save and restore them.
