I know the plan was to force everyone along the line into Limbus, but many casual players don't really like Limbus and this forced path of progression because it's too long and difficult.

They do like Ambuscade, just add another tier of gear and weapon upgrades to Ambuscade.

FFXI has always been about numerous ways to play, forcing people to align with one isn't going to work long-term.
