I'm glad they decided to make some updates, and it's interesting that the layout is almost a mirror image of the lodestone (with all the links and such on the left instead of the right). I like where they're going with it but it looks kind of half finished. No background or clear separation between elements. Although perhaps most importantly, the official site is finally an https:// URL, like 5 years late. haha.

Yes, I had a hard time separating each news topic. I hope they can add alternating backgrounds or separators to help us differentiate them. I think everything else is just fine though.
And thank you Square Enix, no more HTTP warnings. Yaaay!! /cheer

I actually dislike the new website. I hope that, if they are still making changes, they give an option for a "classic" view. I really liked the charm, aesthetics, and feel of it. Made it really feel like it was an extension of the game, rather than just another website to get my info and leave. I am glad for the HTTPS update though lol.

Yeah, the parchment has a lot of charm and fits the vibe of the game. I'm personally not too concerned with the website design, since I use RSS to get news, and as long as it's light-weight and gets the information across in a proper manner I'm happy.
Still, my feelings aren't universal and I appreciate that, hehe.


In their shoes, I suppose I understand they were trying to appeal to the nostalgic charm of PlayOnline/in-game menus with the blue stripes pattern. I looked at the code, and they opted to do it entirely in HTML and CSS. It's much easier on bandwidth, but the tradeoff is of course less visual flair. Would be cool to see the borders and rasterised backgrounds come back eventually!

I like the cleaner look, minus the lack of a background. The old website design was extremely dated, it was left-justified for gosh sake no one does that anymore lol.

The update to the site is terrible. The old site was like visiting an old friend and made me happy. Now I feel like, why should I even care about anything here? You're not my old friend.

I suppose one could make a mini-game out of finding dead or/and incorrect links etc. out of it for some... uh, entertainment.

Think this only serves to increase resources used, since the site is not used for logging in to anything still as far as I know (the sites that were already were https).

Oh and I guess the big popular browsers won't freak out or even block the site completely any longer... perhaps that's a plus for those who use them.

Also what happened 5 years ago that makes this like that late?
