I think these campaigns are a good thing, but they have become far too easy to anticipate and take advantage of.
They should last 1 week max, be less regular and less easy to anticipate.

They aren't generous enough. They allow players to log in but can't actually play because 6 wardrobes worth of gear are locked away.
It's your server.
We are paying for them to play for free, with the understanding some of the might come back as paying customers.
Not only would giving wardrobes be counter productive since many will just game it (and they 100% do, even though they can easily afford $3 a week to pay for it), but the entire system has become far too easy to anticipate. To the point some people even try to unsub in anticipation of the free time. RMT also heavily abuse it to make money.
Again, I see the goodness in it just as a free testers for products in a supermarket are good to allow people to get a little taste to see if they want to start buying a product. However if you have a free taster every friday, in a few months there will be a line of homeless eating for free that day.
It should not be so easy to anticipate. Twice a year is more than enough.
If way more people are playing for free, they are costing the service money by being there.

Relax, mate. FFXI is doing just fine, and some of the player influx is also coming from the XIV/XI collab and the associated discount program. And some of those players DO resub sometimes.
SE isn't stupid, they wouldn't offer these programs if doing so was going to sink the game and kill their profits.
