Exemplar points are a very long and hard grind, and you can lose them if you die. The loss is percentage based and the numbers tnl for exemplar later on are very large, the point of being comical.
The problem here, isn't dying and losing exemplar once. It's that XI is a very difficult and punishing game and you can die multiple times back to back in new content, or if helping new players that might mess up.
Is it acceptable to lose 15,388 exemplar points at Mlevel 40 from one death? What about if you die 3 or 4 times back to back cause you tried to help some new players? Is that acceptable, does that encourage players to help others on something they might die on?
This is why players will demand laughably high standards from players in PuG content.
Is that really acceptable? when it would take many many hours to get it back?
For serious players, it's less of an issue because they stack the odds in their favor so hard (with various helping aids) so they never are going to die much anyway, but casual and new players (or players helping them) are going to lose so much progress from multiple wipes that if they care about Mlevl they are just not going to do it.
This is an outrageously disrespectful given how many points someone can lose later on, <20 it's not a big deal but with how high it went at the end it kind of is now.
This is not like XP loss back in the day, this is so much worse.
The developers already know it's bad and discourages players, because they removed Mlev loss in Ambuscade. So why not remove it or greatly lower the loss per death everywhere?
This applies to all content, not just ambuscade. Plus, most players do not know it does not apply in ambuscade so they still don't help.Additionally, I’d like to say a few words about Ambuscade as a whole. We envision Ambuscade as a place for returnees and players who just hit level 99 to take their first step into end-game content by way of getting better equipment and learning about max level combat systems in a trial-and-error way. However, we believe that the loss of exemplar points when being knocked out has created a situation where seasoned veterans are hesitant to help out their fledgling counterparts for fear of losing hard-earned progress. To this end, we have decided to adjust Ambuscade rewards so that exemplar points are no longer gained or lost there.
