I've never even seen one of these mobs, and now they're adding the bosses via this same method. Assuming that they spawn for the given world server to defeat and it doesn't matter if individual players participate.... why did they do it like this? Don't they think people want to batle these bosses again? Why would you make them world spawns when they were BCNMs before? Even if everyone gets rewarded, people will miss out on battle content.
I do believe there is no need to be involved to gain the effect(s) on the rewards.

From the latest update notes:

"The treasure chest change applies to each World. Therefore, any players residing in a World that defeated the notorious monsters will be given the chance to acquire the rewards for the applicable area, not just those who actually participated in the battle to defeat the monsters."

I spotted one yesterday, named Lanun, and of course had to fight it.

It was hitting me for over 600 points of damage using regular attacks (me as samurai in Empyrean 119 +3 equipment with some damage taken-- added), and while we could stay up and fight it, my weapon skills dealing ~10k of damage only, its HP bar went down by about 5 millimetres in about 11 minutes, so we didn't spend our time there for seeing how bad it would eventually go.
