Something Square Enix should do is hire on an engineer (the game makes more than enough money to do this), to fix the engine issues to make sure XI can last past 10 years. For instance they need to lift the 56k data cap that limits content creation (this is why alliance content doesn't work well), they need to fix the direct x issue cause ti causes flicker issues, update the engine to use 4 gig ram instead of the current 2 gig.
The game needs a proper engineer assigned to it and not just begging to use one from XIV when they are free.
XI currently is run more like a passion project, that the developers enjoy working on because they have total creative freedom and that Square Enix allow them to carry on with since it makes a large profit. There is no real attempt to improve the core engine and future proof it by hiring 1-2 extra people.
If they hired an engineer they could do a lot with the game and make massive improvements, and it's wild they don't want to do this when they know we are going to keep playing this game long term.
I know Japan has crazy labor laws where they are not allowed to lay anyone off, so they don't want to hire someone to specialize to work on XI when they don't know how long the "game will be around" but this is just not acceptable for the tens of thousand of customers paying 5-10 million a year to play it.
The profit margin for XI is crazy high, they need to hire an engineer who can actually goto work on the core game to improve and future proof it.
They should also be grooming someone younger to be able to become the future producer 8-10 years from now.
