Why I'm choosing to Scan'a'Trout instead of doing Vana'Doubt.

Firstly, if you love Vana'Doubt, that's awesome, I'm really happy for you, sincerely. I think it is nice that the Devs added a New Thing, and I was All-In for the first Vana'Doubt, I was so happy that the Devs had found the time to add a New Thing, ontop of all the maintenance and fixes and normal monthly campaigns, which again I salute them for every single day, I am proud to pay my subscription every month because FFXI is still the greatest computer-game in the history of the universe, and I really love the Devs for keeping everything Ship-Shape and interesting with the monthly campaigns and Fancy-Dancy extras.

But Vana'Doubt isn't for me. I totally despise Lolbuscade on so many levels, it was cool as a little side-event for augmented capes, I liked doing the capes, it was okay for helping new players get basic armour, but it lost me when the armour became OP and dwarfed Alluvion Armours on stats, and then the Lolbuscade Weapons arrived and they just ruined all the Alluvion Weapons on stats, not to mention Magian Weapons etc.

Also I resent the Lolbuscade KI system, it just feels unnatural and inorganic, which just adds to the number-crunching / factory-production-line atmosphere in the whole Lolbuscade thing.

And since Vana'Doubt relies so heavily on Lolbuscade, that really kills my enthusies. I like the Vana'Doubt stuff that is nostalgia quests etc. but it feels shallow to me. The cool thing about Vana'Doubt is the same thing that Lolbuscade had going for it, it helps New Players, and returning players. It is cool that New Players do Vana'Doubt and discover archaic quests and content that they'd never encountered before, that is really cool and I applaud the Devs for bringing New Players into the realm of Old Areas Content.

But for me, there's a lot of Old Content that is more interesting. But the big problem with Vana'Doubt, for me, are the rewards. I literally want nothing from the Vana'Doubt rewards list. I am certain that if there were some new rings and earrings, cool novelty hats, fancy novelty coats, all new and added as Vana'Doubt exclusives. A bunch of /lockstyle stuff, I would do Vana'Doubt because I really love cool exotic kooky novelty gear and /lockstyle costume fun.

But the Vana'Doubt rewards are just meaningless to me, and the content is profoundly unexciting to me.

So this month, I decided to earn zero Loldits in Vana'Doubt, and instead go fishing for a few weeks, with as many Anglers' Discernment bonuses as I can manage, and play my favourite "Guess The Fish" mini-game, where I try to tell what fish it is by closely observing the rod's movements, because different fish really do move differently. And enjoying the "PLING!!!" light-bulb over the head when Anglers' Discernment procs. PLING!!! It always makes me smile! I am obviously staying far away from Bastore Sardines during my fishing month, as I don't want to accidentally earn any Loldits. And I'm singing my gnomish fishing-song as I go along ; "I WEAR MY CLOMPS, PEOPLE CALL ME STOMPS, THE FISH ALL CHOMPS !!!"

The great thing about FFXI, is that it is vast and infinite, to quote a movie, and so there's always fun things to do, and while I might find one type of content awful, there are so many other things to do instead !!!

I'm not sure why you felt the need to announce that something wasn't relevant to you. Your entire post is incredibly obnoxious by deliberately mis-naming the content, randomly Inserting capitalization, and certainly seems like a hot take designed to incite controversy, also known as "trolling." You try to mask this with the odd positive sounding comment, but this is absolute troll bait, and also basically reads like "STOP LIKING WHAT I DON'T LIKE."

But to address some of your criticisms anyway, since after the first event, there's been a wide range of content to engage in , so complaining because you don't like ambuscade isn't really valid, becuase you don't have to do a billion ambuscades if you don't want to. The whole event, along with things like the monthly campaigns and such, are meant to encourage us to engage in more of that wide variety of content you speak of.

The "KI system" comment- this entire sentence is meaningless. "Unnatural?" "Inorganic?" None of this means anything. What makes it those things? You don't elaborate on this, nor do you propose improvements. Like I said. This is just a trollbait-y hot take.

If you want to take a dump all over something other people are enjoying, you could at least offer up suggestions for improvement- i.e. what would give you a more favorable view, etc. But you don't.

Funny enough the current Vana'Bout has featured multiple fishing objectives. Which, to be honest, for me was the least appealing activity on offer, as I've never liked fishing in any MMO or really any game anywhere for that matter. But I'm not going to diss them for it, and I'm sure there are plenty of people who enjoy fishing who were glad they could do fishing things for the event.

A maintenance mode MMO with a monthly sub is NAAAAAAASTY work........It just shows how good XI is, even if the SE are not good to XI. No other MMO is getting away with this lmao.........XIV fans would walk out so damn fast; they wouldn't have a left over 25k-30k.

They already are. Have you looked at the stats for that game the past couple of years?

Yeah, and it's doing fine. We know you want FFXIV to die, but it's not. The current expansion is probably the weakest up to this point, but even then it's still bigger than FFXI ever was at its peak. WoW is also enjoying a popularity surge with its latest expansion, but that can all change with the next one.

This forum is full of purists who hate FFXIV merely because it exists, so of course you're going to spread doomy doom doom stories about it that have little basis in truth. FFXI has nothing to blame for its decline but itself, as even the obvious failiure of XIV 1.0 didn't see a player rise in XI.

I've maintained a continuous subscription to XI for the vast majority of the last 20+ years and I will be here in some capacity to the very end. But I'm not going to pretend XIV is bad just because the community resents its existence.
