There isn't.

The macro bars are only visible while actually pressing the buttons, I'll agree it's not the best design ever but once you let go of ctrl or alt you can see the icons again, Nothing happens so fast in this game that you're going to miss anything in 2 seconds. So no, I don't really find it annoying. But maybe that just comes from playing the game for 20 years.
