I have to admit I'm not the clever programmer I like to imagine myself to be, so it's entirely possible there's some reason this can't work, but... wouldn't it hypothetically be possible to create a layered zone and populate it with enough NPCs to match the server population cap, each responsible for storing inventory data for a single player? Then when a player enters, they speak with their personal moogle valet, while all the rest are stored some arbitrary distance away outside of loading distance. Load time in the zone is probably as bad as mog garden, and you might need to wait in line to visit the vault, but that could potentially give players an extended inventory option that doesn't increase general loading time, couldn't it?

That frankly sounds many times more comlpex than just adding another inventory space. lol. I suppose it could get around some of the technical issues they face in expanding inventory, but it doesn't sound very convenient.
