Please make it stop.
Please make it stop.
As people enjoy telling me when I raise my concerns about how it's implemented, you are free to stop any time you like.
Doesn't make you feel like you are, though, does it? Fear of missing out is a very strong element of its design.
You're close, except being able to run the objectives by myself makes them less time consuming, if anything. But, yes these daily objectives are simply too time consuming. I have a Sortie static, Odyssey static, and I run an active Linkshell with events 4 to 5 times per week. I play this game entirely too many hours per day and even I can't find the time for this! And as a side note, fishing up rusty items and playing the game at L30 is just deeply unfun.
They are good for people who don't do all the other things you do.
No offence, Velner but this might be a you problem, lol.
I'm in a few statics and do event several times a week and I embrace this. It made the server I'm on much more alive than just some drama yells and ambuscade.
I have to agree that it's been livelier since Vana'bout started. Not sure how many of the people I see running around are actual players and how many are storage/trove mules getting trotted out for abyssea trophies (guilty, Vana'bout is a million times better than Chloris), but the overall "ghost town" feel is being shaken a bit.
I still think there are things that could be better, and I really don't like there being time-consuming Ambuscade goals every single day since that's causing the event to be noticeably congested, but we don't need to throw the baby out with the bathwater.
I notice none of you have defended it as actually fun lol. To each their own. At least Odyssey was added to it today.

Of course it's not fun. If you want fun, go play Super Mario or something. FFXI is a game for grown-ups, it's supposed to be a second job that you pay for the privilege of doing.
Though that said, I mean... I dunno, I think I'd enjoy it if it weren't so time crunched. It actually is kind of fun checking out the prestige fights that nobody would do otherwise, and some of the objectives take you to places you'd never go normally. A version of Vana'bout where you could skip any objective and each one was replaced immediately if you had an uncleared objective in that pool would be great, go out and do something outside the ordinary everyday grind.
Setting objective tiers, making everything daily, doubly punishing failure to clear daily tasks, that all just creates this pressure that takes the fun out of it, and it turns it from "do your best" to "reach the target and stop." Last time, I went all-out trying to hit a top score, until I failed an objective; this time, it's get 1300 and call it done. That this seems to be a common sentiment doesn't speak well for event engagement.
I really don't appreciate SE making a daily task that is capped and makes you wait 5 days to get a new KI if you fail. Super unfair to peoples points.
