This is stupid, no. It does not work and just makes an incredibly toxic community of stupid witch hunts and bullying, and if you make an incredibly toxic community you just encourage the developers to make gil have less value as is the case on ff14 (where it is near worthless - and people still buy it for housing).
You have to just accept some people want to buy it, and people will sell it and at that point of reality you just encourage the methods they use to farm it be as inoffensive as possible.
Which is what they do.
It didn't work back then, it surely would not work today when most can solo.
Since we cannot control SE, unless hundreds or thousands of people are willing to stop paying for their account until they get rid of the bots, this method is viable, as we would be policing ourselves. It's at least something we can do and not just keep complaining to SE and being ignored because it would hurt their bottom line, money.
The topic of this post was how to get rid of bots. Saying that there will always be people that buy and sell gil is equal to saying just accept the bots.

A mass customer walkout would likely just lead to the game's termination.
The dominant sheepish consumer culture encourages that the answer to every disagreement to be to halfhearted boycott something. Which obviously does nothing when there is no competitor to threaten the target with. In this case there is no "hurting SEs (already hurting) bottom line" to get your way.
Direct action by the community to the community is the only possible way. There is no other solution coming anytime soon, if ever.
Guys you dont need the community to stop gil buyers. You need SE to ban the hackers... Well, when people are blatantly hacking and botting in the open, why would others not join them? Dont go after the little guys who are following in their footsteps because SE does nothing. All they have to do is ban the obvious abusers, and the rest of the flock will fall in because they will be afraid. Its that simple, those that are banned will simply recreate accounts again anyway, just keep banning their idris and support accounts. Literally anyone they hire for 10 minutes could do it.
I'm not saying you're wrong, but the only reason the game is still running is it prints money for SE. The only thing that can happen with a boycott is the game shutting down due to not making money. It's not going to persuade them to do anything else.Direct action by the community to the community is the only possible way.
