    This, I hate when MMOs go the "all instanced" route. It's boring, dungeons and content should be in the open world, fit to support many different groups each with their own objectives. That is the classic MMO experienced, instancing should always be kept to the bare minimum, always.

    Well the reason this happened is because of too much conflict from people over the same stuff. Despite how big Vana'diel is, lots of people need to do the same things and that just means that lines form in the real world, and the problem like that is people can cut in line or people steal stuff, etc. Instances create a consistent experience for every user that is less vulnerable to disruption.

    That being said, there are other ways to do that. Phasing is often used in conjunction with this so that some content can remain in the world. Phasing just means you get your own monster or quest NPCs etc. and people who aren't doing it don't see them, and can spawn their own without any conflict.

    This is why FFXI moved many HNMs to force pop- to reduce player conflict.
