lol sry but its true, I really hate it with all my soul![]()
I"m sorry, but FFXIV isn't responsible for anything that happened to FFXI. that was the XI team's own doing. If anything the abysmal failiure of FFXIV 1.0 should have boosted FFXI, but it didn't.I can't tell you what to like and not to like but I can tell you that hating for the sake of hating is not a good reason for anything no matter what one is discussing.
As a life long FF fan and someone that has played ff11 for 18 years, if the option was f14 or nothing. I would play nothing.
I've played FFXI since day 1, and i've played FFXIV since its day 1. The games are nothing alike and have little to nothing to do with each other. They're made to appeal to different people (though I have reasons to like each of them).
As I said before. I'm totally fine with people playing it and not liking it for whatever attributes it possesses. I'm not fine with people hating for the sake of hating, or based on some cockamamie conspiracy theory about SE wanting to destroy their own game (which is clearly not true or it wouldn't still exist now).
I don't even fully agree (it was a factor, not sole reason) with the rather popular notion that abyssea ruined the game, but FFXI has far more to do with its own decline than anything the FFXIV team did.
I half suspect I'm just being trolled here, but w/e.
//still waiting for the "poorly made" mount examples
It directly advertises to Final Fantasy fans... of course it will have a direct impact on XIs bottom line. Even if the playstyles of the games are different, its still a FF game and will draw that crowd. I know plenty of people forcing themselves to play XIV just because its popular and has FF fan service. They hate the battle system because they always hated WOW yet they force themselves to play it. SE has hardly ever advertised XI, they directly took its gains and used it to bolster XIV when it failed, they have constantly neglected the game at many points. Of course its natural the population would wane, when they are pouring all their efforts into XIV! I remember seeing tons of advertising in major cities for XIV, including NYC times sq. Have you ever remembered anything like that for XI? So yes, I blame SE and especially XIV for the decline. That is why I hate it!Also you say XIV team has nothing to do with it, you do realize that Yoshida is in control of XI? Do you think he would let it succeed over his baby?
I don't understand this one, you say this as if FFXI somehow didn't advertise or appeal to FF fans.It directly advertises to Final Fantasy fans... of course it will have a direct impact on XIs bottom line.
As I said, the two games have different gameplay. Not every FF fan likes every FF game and between the two, there are many who would only even consider playing one or the other. Now, it would be wrong to say that zero players were taken from FFXI when FFXIV came out, but I personally believe that number is small. Only a handful of FFXI players were expressing interest in it even back then. And at that time, FFXI had been out for a decade already (FFXIV in its 9th year of operation). The rate of new players for just about any game that's been out that long is low- the vast majority of people playing it at the time had been and would continue to play it for a while. Meanwhile, FFXIV largely appeals to a newer generation of impatient kids who probably never played an FF game before it, certainly not FFXI.
It is because of these factors that I think you and others vastly overestimate the impact of FFXIV on FFXI's state. Just by the basics of the gameplay, they mainly appeal to different types of people and thus neither likely could have taken that many players from the other (Even though SE originally modeled the races after those in FFXI- but that's about all they have in common besides some monsters and skill names). Admittedly, this is somewhat of a counter-argument to my earlier discussions on a combination sub discount- but there is an overlap, just not a very big one. SE gets almost twice as much money from me as I subscribe to both.
No, I don't want him to let it succeed over XIV. Smaller community was much more civilized and mature (around 500k subscribers). Love the international servers. As a RDM/NIN and THF/NIN solo Mithra in 75 cap era, I wasn't impressed with XIV's battle system. He can keep his baby for the WoW refugees (the ones I just met).
Not like SE is riding on a high Dhalmel mount anyway. We see the demand of a remaster and console port very high.
