asking because I am now 69 and have sever vision problems and one of the characters I have created since coming back has 30000 silt and Eschalixirs but Nolan just keeps saying the shop is closed. So I need to know what hoop I need to jump through to get Nolan to augment his Rao gear.

What are the gating criteria to get Nolan to augment Abjuration gear?

NOt sure how your physical condition is relevant (though my vision is also crap), but from FFXIclopedia:
" Trade your piece with one of the eschalixirs to choose your augmenting path and have the piece mezzotinted in preparation for the augments; the eschalixir will be returned. Then trade your piece with your eschalixirs (he will also take one
Escha Silt fee) to receive your augments and rank up. You must get to rank 15 for max augments."
It makes no mention of any special conditions to be able to carry out the trade.(1)
