    Update/Web page problems.

    Hey guys,

So as of yesterday I am experiencing huge amounts of reduced speed with logging into playonline, ffxi and all ffxi Web based pages. I have had no updates to my computer on this end. I started the latest update for ffxi but, gave up after it estimated 9 hours.

I have not had a problem since before yesterday. I have also found that the ffxi home page and ffxi forums pages are extremely slow to load as well. I do not have any problems with other Web pages or online games. I recently tried to speak with a gm but, found the square Enix Web pages are also timing out or are loading extremely slowly.

Currently I am using Windows 8 with a wireless based modem being a netgear aircard 790S. I have forwarded all ports suggested on the square Enix page. I am not sure what else I can do but, any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thank you

Just some more specifics. I first noticed this Wednesday 14th September at 5 or so am. The log into playonline was exceptionally slow yet I did manage to get in. The night before it was fine as always.

The game seemed fine. Upon trying today, the log in to playonline was slow, especially retrieving messages/friends lists. The first page that comes up usually doesn't or after a few retries does. Then the ffxi page (where u click play) either loads or does not.

Eventually I have got into the game however, this latest update is stating 9 hours remaining and is downloading the files extremely slow. I the tried the ffxi home page which, is slow also as well as the forums Web pages. As stated I have no issues loading any other Web page or online game. It seems like anything ffxi related is affected.

I've had no new updates to my computer (auto updates are turned off). I also have not updated my modem. I have factory reset my modem, forwarded all suggested ports and reinstalled my WiFi device. I was curious to know if anything changed at all via squares side?

I'm really hoping to find a solution! I've already lost 100 login points today and am at a complete loss as to what has happened. Please help!

Made sure your Firewall hasn't blocked any FFXI files, as I know at some point some Firewall's were?

Thanks for the reply mate. I am only using Windows firewall so would you be able to tell me what exactly i need to do? I will say that I tried running pol, tried the update and the Web sites with my firewall turned off yet, same problem. I also do have ffxi on my exceptions list.

    Thanks again

Thinking of it, if you're having problems with the site, it's not likely to be a file being blocked, it sounds more likely somewhere the FFXI websites are being put through some sort of filter which is causing the lag/block.

    Basically you could try:

Temporarily disabling Firewall on the Router / Modem or setting your computer to the DMZ if that works the problem is the Firewall.

    and if that does nothing

Try using Google's DNS servers or a VPN to see if the problem is your ISP instead.

Ok, i cannot seem to find a firewall option within my modem so once again switched off windows firewall. Also I have no idea how to set my computer to the dns.

I did however set my ips to Google's and it made the situation worse, so much so the ffxi homepage wouldn't even load. I had a look at Port filtering in my modem but, it is disabled. One thing with the pol program I will mention is that upon activating it I always get the user account control message as it does not know the developer and I have to click ok. Could this be affecting it and if so, how do I remove it?

Anyway any further help would be amazing. No luck so far

HOW TO SET COMPUTER AS DNZ

1.From a computer or wireless device that is connected to your network, launch an Internet browser.

    2.Enter http://hotspot.zain or http://192.168.1.1.A login screen displays.

3.Enter the administrator login password. The password is case-sensitive.The Home screen displays.

    4.Select Settings > Router > Basic

5.In the DMZ section, select the On radio button next to DMZ Enabled.

6.In the DMZ Address field, enter the Private IP address of your computer.

(Can find your IP Address by using ipconfig in the Command Prompt on your computer it's the one next to IPv4 Address)

Remember only do this temporarily to see if it fixes the problem.

    -

The UAC always appears on POL load as it's asking to Run as Admin, only way to remove it is to disable UAC though I don't suggest doing it.

Thanks for the reply mate, I appreciate it. I'll have a look into it as soon as I get home. I did a little research and read somewhere that when a pol update happens, it can change pol to a exe file and cause problems. I do believe it is running as a exe file atm and I think I did have a tiny update via pol before this had happened.

Unfortunately the thread did not have a solution so I was wondering if this could be the problem and what would be the best fix?

EDIT: Here is the link. The OP seems to be describing the exact same problem granted, they do not mention issues with ffxi or square web sites. http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxi/th...w-Unresponsive

    Thanks again

UPDATE: I went down to a mates house to check on his wireless network but, I thought I would try mine first being that he lives about 35kms away from me. Its working fine. Download took seconds and its currently updating at a nice speed. Do you have any idea perhaps why this is? Perhaps trouble with my local mobile phone tower? I'm a little stumped. Perhps there were issues here in Australia that have now been rectified. I will check tomorrow once I'm home and see how it rolls then.

I cannot thank you enough for all your suggestions and valuable help Jakuk. I really, truly appreciate al the time you have taken to help me out mate! I will place a post up tomorrow after I see how things go at home.

    Thanks again

That confirms the problem was either the Router/Modem or your ISP, most likely the ISP. Hopefully it was a problem they've now rectified and you won't suffer from it again.
