The general understanding is that the strength of the light is determined on how the mob checks to you...has to be T+ to get the bigger numbers. No way to actually confirm that as we don't have a way to actually read the level the game is holding for us--but I've noticed it takes more to get to 1250xp/1k cruor/TE's when the ephemirals are conning DC to me.
T1 VNM's are 5 a pop flat out, so that's an easy way to guage it. Kill a handful of them to knock out some pearl/azure quick, then grab some amber if needed. Then just nab the eph. as they pop in camp for additional Azure as new players join up. You can cap all lights in a fragment of the time so you can get on to better things faster that way.
