Xbox 360 voice chat and the other platforms

I am in a link shell where a large part of the communication takes place via the Xbox live head set. Being a PC user with a head set and chat services like skype mumble ventrilo and teakspeak, i was wondering why it isn't possible for the PC PS2/3 and Xbox 360 users to use the same type of party chat. There are games on the PS2/3 that allow people to voice chat and with the PC it is rather self explanatory. Couldn't it be overly possible to make it so anyone in parties on any platform could voice chat, or just cut out the PS2 users and allow the PS3 users to join.

This might be a "why didn't we try this sooner" idea.

I can't say for certain, but the reason you haven't seen this is because the three systems use entirely different chat mechanics.

Xbox 360 chat uses dedicated channels seperate from ingame chat, allowing for cross game chats and party chats. but each game uses its own built in chat channel using XBL as the medium, like I said im not all too clear how it works.

PSN doesn't have dedicated chat channels, hence no cross game chat. Instead each game is its own dedicated channel, but does not allow for private party chats while ingame.

PC is an entirely different beast, with many different ways to circumvent chat restrictions through third party programs.

To allow for cross console chat you have to consider the different challenges inherent in the contracting and coding of each platform. About the only way I can see about getting around the network/console restrictions inherent in each version would be for SE to set up seperate chat servers dedicated to just final fantasy, which would increase the subscrition cost to you and me, and then LS, party, and alliance chats would all have to have seperate channels which would come with its own set of headaches. And honestly, this game is not worth that much to me. Skype is basically a P2P chat with one person acting as a host. As far as I know, since I've never used these so I could be wrong, Ventrillo and TeamSpeak use dedicated servers for that purpose.

So the PC gets windower and xbox gets voice chat... lame trade off and puts them into their world I must say that the implication of xbox live voice chat on microsoft's end was the most ego centric move they've done with xbox live. I guess all 3 platforms will continue to play together but each in a different game... bravo >_>
a good way around that though would be microsoft allowing people to connect to a 3rd party chat server while connected to xbox live (which is totally plausible with the OS on xbox 360)
