I aways loved the WHM job but indeed the blinking problem is ultra annoying. But I suppose players learned to "exploit" it in their favor when being /check harassed and that might have why SE never bothered with solving it.
I have an innate fear that people would be running around in the level 50 subligar as their costume...
But really, I do rather like the idea of being able to appear differently from what you have equipped. I'd definitely don my Iron Musketeer gear again on PLD... many good memories tied to that armor.

If it solved the blinking problem I would be on this like white on rice.
The blinking problem never occured to me when I first suggested this, getting rid of that would be the icing on the cake for me, though I can see why some people would still want it. Personally I always hated switching equipment and then losing the lock on the mob I was fighting.
I suppose there could be a toggle in the game settings, so that if you don't want to see other people's costumes you could turn the effect off.
Or for those who are concerned with knowing what gear their team mates are wearing SE could make it so you can't hide you character information if you choose to be wearing a costume. That way you could still check the player out.
Everquest 2 and LOTRO have that "Appearance" tab where you equip an appearance item that covers the slot of the actual item so you can walk around in gear you can't use yet, like using hecatomb on your alts (but not really) to prove to people your not a noob (much of one). Except in EQ2 you can do weapons also, lotro only armor.
It's a great feature because a lot of items just do not go together. And some older, nice looking items, never get used again. I'd prob hang onto some older stuff just for looks.
If it gets implemented here I think it would be fair if you needed to have a job at the correct level to equip an item in the costume slot. I don't know why it just feels right. And possibly you would have to be the correct job to use them too, not totally decided on that one yet though.

Having one or more extra slots added to the equipment tab (or a new equipment menu for costumes) that served no purpose other than entertainment value by changing your apperance would solve alot of the woes for a hairdresser :P
I'm thinking use it more for minor astetic changes rather than full body costumes.
Add in a hairstyle / wig slot that equips over your current hair like a helmet erasing it and replacing it with this one.
Or another example is, personally I've always wanted to be a sly animal race. Galkan's don't cut it for me b/c I'm not a big guy irl, and as a man, I refuse to play on a girl character. Could use the head slot to attach on fake ears, use a cape slot to attach on a tail.
It may seem like stupid entertainment features but personally I don't like a game being serrious buisness 24/7 it's fun to goof off / play around / and show your creative side. Would be nice to permanently have wings, halos, ears, tails, glasses, necklaces, capes, belts, auras, etc that showed permanently on you and did not take up a useful equipment slot. Would add a little bit of customization to the monotonous end game gear sets to add in a few extra personal features.
If it isn't something you'd use then don't use it. If the fact that players would all be wearing goofy things would annoy you, you need to loosen up a bit. :P
