You can buy an expansion code from SE's online store, and then download and install the Seekers Collection from the FFXI official web site...

doing that i won't have problems for future installations of the game? (example: if i have to format my PC and download again the game from my steam account, i will have all the expansions again?)

Don't do the Steam download, download the installation files from the FFXI web site and burn them to disc or keep on an external hard drive. Steam isn't going to give you an installer for Adoulin unless you bought the Seekers Collection from them, and expansions don't auto-download (though they have talked abotu making them do so in the future).

it's possible to burn to a disc my game taking the files from my steam folder? or it's useless doing that if i won't use steam in the future?

You could, but it won't register the registry entries needed for the game to run and you'd still have to reinstall. You'd also have to manually break the game up into folders small enough to fit on DVDs. Windows programs generally aren't portable just by copying the folder, the installer sets up data in Windows registery and system files that aren't contained in the application folder.

Those files are the right size, and will take up less DVDs than burning your application folder.

If you want to back up your install, copy it to a flash drive or external hard drive. Then you can just install the core game for the system setup, and then copy your old install over, which will reduce the number of files to download the next time you install.

As long as you have your POL ID for your character that's all you need, download the game files, install FFXI and then set up your character.

Probably. It's on sale for $4.99 this month anyway, so might as well. As it's digital delivery, you'll wind up with a code pretty much right away, and can just add that to your account.

You could also buy the full collection and use that code. It'll add whatever you don't have, if you apply it to an existing account. The individual expansion codes via the account manager are a poor deal most of the time.
