I'm just saying that with literally millions of 360/PS controllers floating around, it makes sense to add support to the game. Especially when you consider that many of the people playing the PC version will already own one and not want to spend more money on a different one that may not work as well. If not for the convenience, at least for the safety in not having their customers install 3rd party drivers or other poorly coded programs off the internet. For a company like SE, it really would be rather trivial to add it and save everyone the headaches. There are a LOT of people who just aren't interested in playing with a keyboard / mouse.
The version of DirectX the game is coded for doesn't support XInput that the Xbox controller driver uses. They'd have to recode the game for a newer version of DirectX, and that's a big investment. There's plenty of controllers on the market that do DirectInput as well as XInput, and plenty of software solutions that work system-side. SE doesn't have to add support for one peripheral in the sea of peripherals.

There are programs that can change the input to directinput already available for free without making any changes to the game itself. https://sites.google.com/site/0dd14lab/xinput-plus
It's really not that hard for them to create an official version for ffxi. If people can do it for free, a multibillion dollar company that charges subscriptions should have no problem coming up with something.
And it's not one peripheral in a sea of peripherals. It's very likely that there are more 360/ps controllers in existence than all other PC specific game pads combined. Not only that but the need for these people to find a PC game pad has been specifically created by SE themselves.
