let us sell more items
was a problem with congestion on the auctions server(s)--originally had more slots and they had to reduce it. Moderator came in on another thread and stated they plan on revisiting the issue after the auctions merge to see if the restriction can be removed. Hopefully by reducing the number of queries needed to check status and such the congestion wil be reduced enough that they can handle the additional traffic for additional slots.
progress I guess....just will have to wait and see.

They already said they'll probably be addressing this in the future.
Increasing it would be way overpowered, and completely unbalance the game.
Did people stop using mules to get more AH slots? To unbalance something implies it was balanced. "Balanced" may mean different things to different people but the ability for 2-3 people to flood a market into oblivion on server populations exceeding 4000 never seemed very balanced to me. There are items I drop or dump on the nearest NPC because it isn't worth my time to mule it and isn't worth even a mules AH slot. The slot limitation is only one part of that decision. Fee structure and length of time before the item can be sold make up the rest. There are also items I need that are dirt cheap but almost never in stock so I don't even look for them on the AH.
A large part of the race to get sold 1st (and thus undercut everyone else) is caused by the same factors. If it takes 3 weeks to sell something because almost nobody looks for that item because its almost never in stock...You see where I'm going? Ah slots per character won't have a huge impact by itself. The planned adjustments to listing time will be the biggest impact. If implemented - my understanding was these things are not definite yet but under consideration.
Edit:
Sigh...I fell for it. Well played.
