Jeuno and Adoulin are where people generally gather and hang out.
As for finding people to talk to, look up a Linkshell Concierge NPC and see if there are any social Linkshells that are recruiting people.
A couple of them are in Windurst Woods, near the NPC that gave you the Trust Quest.

Option 2 is to /shout or /yell for a linkshell. Just be sure to ask for a social shell that accepts new players.
