Well Wings of the Goddess and Abyssea both ended in December 2010. Seekers of Adoulin didn't come out until about 2 years after that. In the intervening time, I remember they raised the level cap to 95, then 99 by the end of 2011. Then they seemed to put a lot of focus on Voidwatch.

A new expansion might be in the works, but I wouldn't expect it until mid 2017.

They most definitely have the concepts for content to go with. I'm just not going to hold my breath. Even with all the Mods that the Japanese players got with the PS2 HDD add-on, there's still a hard cap, and with no new makes to expand upon, as long as they're in the mix it'll be rough to press forward. Even the Xbox 360 is showing signs of problems, massive lag spikes, etc. Not to mention the decrease in server population. Don't get me wrong, I feel this game still has some life left in it, but if they did a 'reboot/transfer' to the new consoles then they'd have a chance to extend the life even more. Still, that costs money, and when something gives you profit for next to nothing, you try not to change it. Not to mention, The only New Gen console I would see this game transferring to would be the PS4 because SE is about keeping people connected, and the only reason FFXI came to 360 what because of the Playonline login, something Microsoft didn't have to worry about. I mean, SE did offer to put FFXIV on the Xbox One, but they declined because they wanted separate servers for their users, which defeats the purpose of scores of functions in that game, and an unnecessary burden on SE.

They upgraded the space available from 10 gig to 19 gigs, I think that hard cap is just fine.

Expansion packs are important to a game like this, they aid in player retention. In more modern titles expansions are a negative because it means a loss of players due to a large chunk not wanting to buy them, which is why most do downloadable expansions. FFXI has a dedicated playerbase who are well accustomed to buying them, it makes more sense and more profits to make them than not for this kind of game.

Keep in mind that FFXI is still the most profitable FF title they ever made, it was incredibly cheap to develop and is a major source of easy to maintain profit.

SE is working on the Heavensward expansion for FF14 that's probably what they want people to play.

SE is a large company, they can make more than 1 thing at a time. Also they have always said they want to run multiple mmo titles at once to maximize profits, it's not a case of FF14 is a replacement for FF11 because they are nothing alike.

You can keep dreaming if you want to, I'm not going to place any bets. Making another expansion means that they also have to make physical copies of the game for PS2/XBox 360. The game makes them money the less effort they have to put into it. But whatever, Believe what you want to, there's no proof to point in either direction.

You're putting a lot of effort into arguing against something that would benefit you.

Everything you said applied just the same to SoA, as such they are meaningless negative nancy arguments.

The conclusion of the SoA storyline means the SoA storyline has concluded but not much more. Without official word, knowing the financials of the game, or what's going on inside SE (especially in regards to the team that manages FFXI), this conversation doesn't go far.

They have the same races but with better graphics. They are pretty similar games its just 14 has more modern mmo convinces. I been playing 14 more then 11 lately but been liking 14 much more.

I meant that XI probably won't see a budget increase any time soon which is what a full blown expansion would need. Which btw the dev team or at least part of it would be working on. They still gives us updates because enough people are still playing XI to be feasible for them. Compared to XIV, XI might as well be in hibernate mode. This year alone XIV added a job been working on all patches leading up to the expansion, the expansion, holding three fanfests (one still to come) a 14hr twitch event, got talked about at GDC, was at all the major gaming conventions, are going to be launching in China, and multiple mini events across Japan. Also there are talks in the works for an EU data center.

When was the last time XI got that much exposure? The main thing I can think of was the 18hr+ fight against AV. Most game reviewers we going wait, people still play that? Oh and shame on SE for making a fight that risked the health of its players.

SE has two mmos that it actually cares highly about and neither of them are XI. Yes, we get updates once a month and the devs still seem to care but look at the amount of misunderstanding between players and them. The monthly updates are more like a monthly feeding to rabid animals that scarf down the food in seconds and grumble about the measly offering. While also being unhappy with the food they got because it wasn't the good stuff.
