Credit card as only form of payment is fine, not much harder to buy a disposable debit than a game card.

Just make it actually work, globalcollect's fraud prevention system is absurd and blocks legitimate people all the time.

Not saying paypal shouldn't be added back, but when people get a half dozen cards blocked and accumulate a month long lockout without even knowing it.. those people aren't likely to come back.

To clarify, their payment system will block your card under any of the following conditions(possibly more):

-Credit card billing address is too far from current location.
-Credit card billing address isn't in the same country as square enix account.
-Same credit card is being used in multiple square enix accounts(number where this comes into play is unknown, may actually be a $$ quantity thing)
-You're on a known VPN or proxy.

If your cards are being rejected under any of these conditions, WAIT. Each time you get rejected your account(not card) gets blocked from purchasing for a set time period. They're very secretive about how long the block lasts, but Byrthnoth had it racked up to a month at some point so it can be extremely long. If you try again before the block expires, you extend it. Let your block expire(guesswork, but if it fails only try once and then go back to waiting) and retry while not meeting any of the above conditions.

    Yes, this is ****ing ridiculous.

Edit: The system applying these checks and blocks is globalcollect, not square enix. SE's support will not be able to help you, and globalcollects support isn't willing to work around them.

Not to attack you since you're helping, but it's their choice to do business with globalcollect so the blame still lies squarely (puns always intended) with Square Enix. I'm sure SE is well aware of how they function, and I can only assume wholeheartedly approve of their methods.

The usual way of things is that we are all so stupidly addicted we will complain and find a way around it so Square won't have to do anything. If all of us having issues simply stopped until it was fixed they would fix it, but most won't do that.

FYI SE didn't cancel Paypal, the owners of UltimatePay did.

Completely irrelevant. This is SE's game. The players are SE's customers. The customers can no longer pay SE through a perfectly valid and widely accepted method of payment. It's SE's responsibility to make sure that they can collect payment from their customers, and if their business partner can't get the job done then SE needs to find a new partner or handle it themselves.

Basically people saying there should only be credit card option, are missing the point. Yes you could have credit card option only. You could make the only payment option being the use of carrier pigeons delivering your cash payment by flying through the air for hundreds of miles with your money in their little beaks. But that would exclude a lot of customers, lol.

I paid for FFXI by a U.K. debit card VISA, in England, from 2004-->2011. My card was hacked in 2005~ when I bought a wardrobe from a mainstream reputable online furniture shop, and one of the workers there was skimming all the CC and user ID templates from the database. He took quite a lot of money from my account, and from the accounts of about 400 other people. But after that I never used my debit card online again. However I kept my FFXI payments going via debit card, for 6~7 years, as I had already set this up.

In 2011~ FFXI stopped accepting bankcards/accs and said you have to use Click and Buy. And so I typed my details into Click and Buy. The next day my bank cards were frozen by the bank. I got a letter from the bank ; "we have frozen your cards for security reasons, as your card was used on Click and Buy, a service that is "redflagged" under the ID Fraud category. This bank does not allow clients to use any redflagged security risks. If you come down to the bank branch, we will issue you new cards with new numbers."

I then started paying using Ultimate Game Card, paying direct bank debit via Paypal. This has been 100% easy and convenient for me, and SECURE.

Also as I work internationally, I am not always at home in the UK where my bank cards are based. Some countries are not accepted by the FFXI debit card entry box. So if I am working abroad in certain countries, I can not use the system, unless I was using Paypal which is a worldwide payment system. Paypal is very easy and secure = "quality of life."

Why is it that SquareEnix makes it so hard for people to give them money?

    Playing any online game, requirements should be;

    1) You have money in the bank.
    2) You have a valid globally accepted payment method, such as Paypal.
    3) You obey the game's TOS and rules set out by the game producer.
    4) You are courteous towards fellow players, ie. other customers.

I just ticked all 4 boxes, and yet I know my preferred globally-accepted payment option, Paypal, is not accepted, and I will have problems with my direct-to-SE bank payments again, because I get random error messages when I use my in-credit bank account and legit debit cards on SE Acc Management, random error messages and random lockouts from the game because of it. Plus I don't want to use my debit cards online *anywhere* after the stuff thats happened to me, so I would prefer Paypal.
