Not that I disagree with what's being asked, but maybe that commitment is part of the Mythic acquisition for that very reason, they only wanted people dedicated and committed to x job to complete it, not someone who's unsure of how to progress or what to get.

See the reason I call BS on the commitment argument is because I somewhat doubt there is a player more committed to RDM than I am and yet even I still refuse to turn in any of my Alexandrite until every other thing is done. If someone who plays nothing but one job and plays basically every day for 30+% of their day, spending almost 10~12 hours a day in farming just for the Alexandrite alone, isn't committed enough to do it, who will be?

Then why don't you turn it in?

As a fan of playing RDM, and making a 3rd mythic now, I already turned in my vorpal sword to start doing the journals and threw 20k pieces of alex down that qiqirn's throat.
I like more than 1 job, and some days i'm like ehhhh maybe I shoulda picked something else, but you can always make another mythic.

Just pull the trigger and commit to something, the reality is that people have more than 1 job they love and want a mythic for, which creates alot of angst when you create your 1st one because its alot of work.
I dunno, it feels like after making the 1st one, it wasnt so rough making another one.

For some people "because I might win a cat's eye."

Which seems insane, but go figure, I know THREE people who won one. Two in the last bonanza, in the same LS even.

(Amusingly none had started on a mythic.)

Because knowing SE, they will come out with a better weapon next week and you will wish that you could sell it all to someone who is building a weapon that is still relevant.

I've made a 4 Mythics over 3 characters, and I never turned a single alex in until I was finishing up just in case. In case of Cat's Eye. In case the total amount miraculously was reduced from 30k. In case I change my mind. In case something much better comes along and I want to switch gears and pursue something new. There are many logical reasons not to turn in anything until you've both finished the quest requirements and are 100% certain it's what you want to do.

    I don't participate in bonanza so I can't really get a Cat's Eye, that's not my reason.

I more or less don't turn it in because I don't know if I want to finish it in the end. I'd love to make it, but as I do more in this game I enjoy it less, in time I fear I'll eventually quit and really the only reason I don't quit probably is I have many great friends in game and a relationship built on this game I don't wish to leave. If I were to at some point quit and it were before my Mythic was completed I'd like to have the Alexandrite to give to a friend or sell for gil to give to my friends. They have been there for me for so long and through all these many years, while it's only gil or Alex it'd still be nice to have something to give them one day if I did quit. Also I don't really like the idea of trading them in because for now they sort of feel like a sort of stock, if I need gil at some point and the price went up I can make profit or at least get gil returned to me when I need it so that I can buy something I need. For instance, the DW Belt that came out recently, if not for getting it yesterday I may have eventually delayed my Mythic and sold a few Alex to make 10M to buy it since I've not had a chance to really do the fight often.

In the end, trading them in doesn't really do much for me. If I keep them in my inventory I can use them for a few different things and have access to them all the same. If I trade them in, I lose them forever. No matter if it results in a Mythic or not, in the end I've lost those Alexandrite forever, so I'd rather keep my Alexandrite on me and be sure I can use them to their fullest until I'm done with them and can trade it all in rather than only a bit. It may seem like weird reasons, but they're my reasons. :x

I had many thousands of Alexandrite by the time I had access to the NPC's services.

They're logical reasons no doubt, even agree with most of em. But this relates back to the commitment to see the mythic through. Again, not saying I agree with them not being able to be made into 100 piece stackables, but perhaps the commitment to not only the job, but to see the mythic through to it's completion, is what they want the process to involve. A "I have no regrets" sort of view.

Maybe we can prod Unelonborro one day to get some musings on it.
