They want capacity to allow for new/old players, they have to as a company believe they can still attract.

To merge all the servers 2:1 really would be saying "We expect no new/returning players" and that that will signal
the end of updates as we now have them, any hope of future expansion packs.

Any company that isn't interested in expanding its product's uptake will stagnate and ultimately fail.

It can be frustrating but the npc's are a cleaver way of addressing the issue though, as long as they keep opening
    areas/missions to them.

Can we please get a new dead horse to beat? This one's so pulverized that it's basically just a gooey mound of gore right now.

If dead horse beating was outlawed new posts would never be made on this forum, or most others.

I love how people forget that XIV is what XI was pre RotZ. So it's a player's own fault to having things done from each the first two days. If their servers are so poor in numbers then how come my free company is full of people just reaching level cap for the first time? Or how I keep on running into various people in dungeons that have never done them? I doubt many people would stick with XI if it had about the same amount of content XIV currently does. Also we seem to have almost the same problem here with people completing things in the first few days and then not wanting to help those who might not be as lucky.

Though can we just please point down to the other current server merge threads and call it a day?

Stop making excuses, it is what it is.

    Both games need server merges.

Server merges won't fix how the player bases treat each other. So until people who are on farm for current end game actually take their heads out of their LSes and try to help other people the servers are going to feel empty. It's like what Raydeus said you can have a megacrap ton of people on a server and still have it feel like a ghost town.

I don't care much if they do server merges or not, although I tend to dislike the idea because I personally like the 500 server population on weekdays with 1k+ on weekends.

But what I do know is that a merge will not fix the problem of not being able to get help for stuff. The community is like that wherever you go, an shouting in a server with 2000 people online will not be much different from as shouting on a server with 500 people, even if numbers would suggest otherwise. Why I know this? Because back in the day with 2500 players online getting help for stuff was exactly the same as it is now unless content was fairly recent.

What does work (but it's extremely meh for me) is trying to get to know people playing in your server. Being more social instead of betting on a PUG to solve you problem. Which again is pretty meh for me because I'm not much of a team player anymore.

At least half of what people ask for help on is stuff they could solo easily. Most times people ask for help, I find they don't do it directly, but try to phrase it like some sort of non-request, like "Is anyone bored enough to help me get the crest thingies for level 60 limit break quest?"

Then another 20% of the time, they want help, and it's at some place that's a 2 minute walk away from some teleport point, but I find out numbnuts doesn't have the teleport so I'm waiting like an hour for them.

Not to mention that everyone needs help with something it seems. If I came out on 1/4 of the calls for help, I'd never get anything done.
