Finding New Recipes

• New synthesis recipes have been introduced.

Since I've never gotten into synthesis much, I have to wonder: how do players find these new recipes? How are they expected to find them?

I know that guild NPCs act as a database of sorts of many different recipes available to a player given their current synthesis skill levels, but I also know that many recipes are still deliberately hidden (which I discovered when I tried to use those NPCs to find out how to upgrade a piece of Conquest Points gear). And this is without getting into desynthesis.

I know a certain other MMO maintains a log of all learned recipes in the UI, and even before that had a complete database of all recipes maintained on their own website, but FFXI seems to lack both of those, instead getting nothing more than the sentence quoted above.

So... what do you folks have to do? Pure trial and error?

As far as I know there hasn't been a hidden recipe added since like CoP came out. So it's not that hard nowadays

Desynth is yeah mostly trial and error but they are simple recipes that just involve 1 finished item and 1 of 3 different crystal types
