    Fishing still needs some help

I just came back and tried fishing on my old character again. I was in Port Jeuno for maybe 45 minutes trying to catch Black Sole. I managed to catch 10 Sole while fishing for just 45 minutes before I just could not catch anything anymore (ie. Fatigued).
I got .1 skill up in that time, making it feel very nearly impossible to ever get fishing to 100. (or cooking too for that matter since that is why I was fishing for materials).

took me 3 months fishing (with skillup rings) everyday to go from 100 to 110. but I've also heard others that went from 100 to 110 in under 2 weeks as well so to each their own. You missed the skillup boost campaign they just did 2 months ago. But now with the skillup tomes you can buy from RoE, would have been a cakewalk to skillup. [cost 200 spark per tome and you can only buy 1 tome at a time until they do the fix this/next month but it beats having to fish and pray to the skillup god]

Depending on what your fishing level is at, Qufim is probably a much better place to fish up Black Sole [plus there's always the occasional thunder element that pops near the fishing spots for cluster if you need that to skillup clothing].

Thank you for the info on the Skill-up tomes. I hadn't started RoE stuff yet, so I didn't know you could buy that kind of thing. I shall try it out later!

Only Combat and Magic skills have tomes. There are none for crafting skills at this time.

Ahh okay, I wondered why I couldn't find it. Would be cool if they added some for crafting and fishing though

Something is wrong. If you were really at max fatigue. 10 sounds very suspiciously like the special fatigue for new characters or players under 20. Either that or you are pulling up other stuff or you are pulling them in way way too fast. Without an ebisus you can catch 200 fish a day. Items count as half a fish. However you could've just thought you were at max fatigue. I've definitely gone a full 30 min of no catches at the wrong time, place and bait when I wasn't at max fatigue. Hell I've gone over 2 hours without a Hakruyu catch when normally I average 12 an hour.

As far as skill goes I recommend getting a skill up ring and fishing for optimum skillup. Which are things that bite more often and aren't too far above you. Generally speaking without skillup ring with the like 6 characters I've leveled fishing with I tend to get 1.5-3 levels a day fishing to max fatigue. On a rare lucky occasion more. With the ring double that. And once I even got so lucky as to get 10 in a day with ring. But if you are targeting right you should expect at least a 5% skillup rate. However with all statistics you will have extremes and you have to look at the overall rates not just a bad streak

Of course once you get ebisu fishing rod it doesn't matter since you can just as easily catch most things including the main money fish at 80 with it as 110 for the most part and the extra levels are just a little more to bite/break rate.

As far as RoE goes they did say they might be adding fishing/crafting objectives... however I doubt they will add a tome that will give skillups unless they only made them work at lower levels considering top tier skilling up has only like 25-33% skillup rate and alot of the recipes are very expensive

    €°(((><

Fishing certainly could use some adjustments.

I got mine up to around the 30s to go for the mercurial kris some years ago (still never got one), and some weeks ago, I decided to finish the quest for 10000 carp, which I started around 6-7 years ago I believe, and was sitting at 2000'ish fish.

After I got that done (with zero cheating even!), it was time to go for skillupses again. Went from 45 to 53 within the past 2 weeks, without the help of the ring (not sure why I ever got around doing fish ranking before now (waiting on it currently)).

It's certainly too slow, especially by today's standards. I don't quite understand why the skillupses happen at such intervals as they do. Sometimes I can be fishing for example bluetails for hours, without any, then suddenly I get 3 or more in a row!
I think it's important to see improvement, progress, which is what keeps me going. I admit that I also fish the bluetail to make them bait for the bhefhel marlin, and secretly hope I stay below their level for a time, but I digress.

I don't see the reasoning. Granted, it's not as important as synthesis skills may be, which takes me to my other dislike: guild-points.

This goes for any and all guilds, really. Does it really need to be so slow to procure those points? Especially today, when everything else has been sped up, and crafting isn't as profitable or important as it might have been in the past (exceptions may emerge).
If fishing did anything to me on guild-points, it may have changed me in that I will possibly never again complain about another guild-point item, as long as it is not lungfish... <shudders>

I tried Matsya a bit, and while that seemed horrible, I'd still do that while standing on my head rather than go for the lungfish.

So yeah, have more skillupses, as I think it is what keeps a player interested. I, too, have been thinking if they will add items for Records of Eminence with the up-coming objectives, but I highly do doubt it. I guess I wouldn't mind that, however. Not at all. My main dismay floats from the guild-points, always.

Still waiting for the fishing adjustments that were mentioned long ago, too!

    Edit:

Forgot to mention the 'area fatigue'. Is that really necessary? The botters are surely not stirred by it one bit. I speak of how the 'you need to wait longer' starts popping up at a certain point, which is more or less re-set when changing area.

Is the daily hard-limit really not enough of an annoyance upon us?

And yeah, I feel like it's taking a bit too much time from me. Perhaps I'm bad at leaving things 'undone', and go do something else, but for the past two weeks, fishing is pretty much the only thing I've been able to do. I hear tell of people at the Marble Bridge thinking I've gone fish—mad.

On a more serious note on that, it's of course mostly about me and myself. I like to clear my inventory for crafting, and do it for several days due to the fact how limited out storage system is. It's not fun to go fish for a few and then go do other things. I'm bad at that, certainly.

I think that's all... fer now.

If it took you 2 weeks to get 8 levels at that range something is pretty wrong. 4 hours of fishing in nashmau without a skillup ring would get you just as much

As far as intervals go... that's just how statistics work

    Aye, evil and bad statistics!

    But 8 levels in 4 hours? That makes me wonder a little if we're even talking about that same game. ^^;

I guess I should have mentioned that no, I was not literally fishing all of the two weeks every single day. Not far from that, though.

January the 1st was when I got the quest for Lu Shang's done, and looking at screenshots, on the 5th, I see I got skill level 48, 6th to 49 (from a box in the Moblin Maze Mongers), 8th to 50 and 51, and two days after, 52. I can't really speak for the skillupses on the other days; I guess I should keep better fishing-logs, or so I often think...
While fishing Gigant Squids for Fish Ranking, I got 53, yesterday (all in all a couple of days of those have given me 0.3 skill, I think).

At least one day I spent on catching the... <shudders> lungfish. Got 1 in like 12 hours by the by! I do admit that I missed all boat-rides except for 2, as I was busying myself with things such as debugging the test-server client on Wine.

Another day I spent on Bhefhel Marlin and, to a tiny extent, Ryugu Titan (got exactly one of the latter up, heh!).

As I mentioned, I indeed feel like I should keep better fishing-logs, but I guess I never wanted to really look back at my cruddy luck. I can say that I certainly can't even imagine 8 levelUPs within 4 hours. That does seem crazy-speak to me.

    I maybe guess it would make sense that, considering statistics, the bad luck has to fall upon someone after all. ^^;
