Granddaddy Dearest quest npc won't take item if Destiny's Device still active

When you do the weekly quest Granddaddy dearest if it sends you to the npc taru in Mhaura and you still have the optional c/s active for destiny's devices it won't take the ki for granddaddy after the destiny's device c/s unless you change jobs. It won't even do it if you zone and come back to him.
