Do you think FF14 re-release will have any affect on FF11?

Back in 2010 when that "game" came out many left FFXI for FF14. It killed The linkshell i had been with since 2005.

Will 14 effect 11's numbers in any noticeable way?

Also out of curiosity how many subscribers does XI have? have SE ever said or hinted at a number?

It will, and the impact on XI will be noticeable, and it will be negative. It may not be devastating, though I think it cinches the need to merge for some of the low pop servers. We're going to lose some of our playerbase. It is going to happen.

How long will it last? A few months at least. 14 is a good game, and SE is deadset on making it the prettier sister, so XI will probably likely feel longlasting effects.

Afterall, playing two mmo's, at whatever level you play, is really impractical. The more you favor one, the more you'll want it keep favoring it.

Honestly with the turns this game has been taking as of late and the amount of people who have left, I would be amazed if it had little effect, in reality, I think this game is about to lose a large portion of its player base, and that will cause less money to goto the game while they are already short on man power, which will cause more issues, which will result in less content, which will continue to spiral us downward till the game actually dies. Its a pessimistic view, but, I can also see it happening.

Honestly, who gives a damn. Want to play ff14? go ahead. Don't want to play? stay here. FF11 will survive and though it probably will have server merges it won't die at least for another 10 years.

FF14 is not the same game and those who leave FF11 expecting to see a revamped game in FF14 will soon find themselves bored to death in another wow clone.

The people who play this game and wonder what will happen if to many quit? Common sense would suggest that if to many leave, this game will make less money, less money made would provoke SE to cut money going to it, less money going to it means less work being done on it, less work being done on it means lower quality and slower updates. Follow this chain and you can see exactly why people give a damn.

Oh goodie, I have a choice.

FF11 will survive and though it probably will have server merges it won't die at least for another 10 years.
That depends on what you constitute as a dead game.

Is a game dead when it has so few people that it seems like a barren wasteland?
Well, in that case, 90% of this game is actually dead already, the only living part right now is Adoulin, Abyssea has a little life left, very little, but enough I guess you can say its alive too, so maybe 15% of the game is alive.

Is a game dead when it has no new content being added?
Well, depending on how many leave, and depending on how much money FFXI is still making, as well as how much SE makes off FFXIV, after all, if FFXIV flops, they might not invest in FFXI very heavily, after all, most players have left, and assuming more will after FFXIV. So all in all, new content could stop as soon as by the end of the year for all we know, it depends on how much money SE still puts into this.

Is a game dead when the servers go down?
This would last the longest I'm sure, but really, again, depending on how much money the game loses from people leaving, it could be much, much sooner than 10 years. You massively exaggerate. With how the game is going, the amount of players that have left, and so on, I doubt this game will last 3 years, let alone 10.

So really, before saying that this game wont die for 10 more years, please, define a dead game, because by some peoples definitions, this game is dead, apparently by yours, its amazingly alive and only half way through its lifespan, in which case, this is one hell of a midlife crisis we are going through atm.

i see it as SE wants 11 to fail with the way the game is going with the whole system with gear having level's. Just lazy on SE's part, but i won't have to worry about it since my sub is canceled and my character is gonna be deleted shortly. No chance on 14 though for me, fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. I'm not getting fooled by SE again with a MMO.

The idea that this game is specifically and intentionally being killed off by SE is almost as stupid as the idea it will live for another 10 years. Why the hell would a company specifically kill off a profitable game in hopes the players would move over to another game made by the same company with the exact same cost every month while also risking the chance of the players leaving and not returning via FFXIV, thus, losing money?

Yea I know several people going to play 14, taking a break from 11 once its out.

Its actually cheaper to play 14 then it is 11. If you bought the original 1.0 and have Legacy you only pay $9.99 sub for 40 character slots. SE actually loses money if a hard core FF fan only plays 14 over 11.

Is it normally cheaper or only if you are a legacy person?

It's only cheaper if you are a Legacy person which means you bought the original version of FF14 and played it for at least 3 months. Then again most of those people are people who play 11 and bought 14 got legacy status.
