    Self Skillchain Interruption

Anyone play a job that allows you to Self Skillchain? Only for someone to jump in and WS or cast a magic spell to interrupt your chain?

Would be nice if we could do this without interruption. Some jobs like Blue Mage or Scholar have no choice but to take too long to Self Chain and in parties it's almost Impossible.

I mean look at it from this point of view, while playing events like WoE which requires you to participate somewhat in order to qualify for max drops etc, Scholar Skillchain is nice but between using job ability Immanence and Casting spells, its hard.

Not only that but requires us to waste 2 Strategems only to be interrupted. And no other time to use Self Skillchain because either most mobs are too weak to finish the Skillchain all the way due to helix and building TP or mobs are too strong to consider using it.

I'm sure it wouldn't possibly be considered overpowered because even blue Mage is limited in use by Chain affinity.

Scholar lacks the Strategems to constantly do it too.

Which seems to be the perfect balance as it is but annoying when its interrupted because DDs only think about using WS before you when attacking the same monster.

Skillchain interruption has been around a long time since day one before Blue Mage & Scholar were implemented yet this limitation has not evolved around these jobs.

It would be great if jobs such as Dancer, Blue Mage, Scholar that can Self Skillchain could do this without interruption from others if we are using job ability with recast timers, and additional conditions to make it happen.

Since Matsui seems open to evolving with the times, does anyone here agree or have any objections?

Not only does it interrupts skillchain, Magic bursts are interrupted as well.

Yeah I just think this was fine back in the day when low man parties organized Skillchains as part of the main focus of exping, but times have evolved since GoV and Abyssea and the 18 man alliances. Now SE encourages us to show up to Wildskeeper Rieves with over 150+ participating making Skillchains pretty much pointless.

Therefore what's the point of Self skillchaining to begin with other than do it solo?

Waste of job abilities in my opinion if we can't even do them.

I think Skillchains need to be revamped.

In single party or lower population situations a macro can help a lot. Something that says you're self SCing. You'll still get jerks that ignore it though since I swear half the remaining playerbase doesn't know what Skillchains and Magic Bursts are, they just spam Shijin, Reso and Shoha until the mob dies. Think the individual WS damage is nice? It looks even better with the SC closing damage bonus and the nice elemental SC damage itself.

There are many who don't know Scholar can Self Skillchain and waste 2 Strategems doing it. This is why it renders to be useless in all party situations.

Yeah.... I'm pretty sure most ppl who have only ever burned their jobs from 30-99 don't know the "nuances" of skill chaining.
There have been many times when I've been in an xp party in abyssea getting merits for whatever, and there's a sam... never using that little JA they have for a self-skillchain.... and I'm.... not that too surprised: the skill of a lv30 character, in the body of a 99.

Hell, I don't know all of what goes with what to make what. But then I don't play those jobs that are ever on a mob to participate in a skill chain (read: mages).
So I just never took the time to learn how to set up or close whatever SC (though when I'm doing a quest WS, I'll sure as hell look up a lv3 skill chain!).
Cause I just don't ever play that role.... hells.... I rarely even use WS unless I'm in a xp party or solo! lol

But in response to the topic at hand, when I was dicking around on DNC (because sometimes I just want to feel like I'm fa~bu~lo~us in that AF XD I love it so much....) it would happen from time to time.. but those were book xp parties in down in Bostaunieux Oubliette... so I never took it personally or nothing... (mostly because I was just leveling dancer to feel pretty)
But does that sort of thing really happen in like... real situations? like in Delve or a WKR???

In any situation that isn't solo or lowman with friends, closing a skillchain is near impossible. Someone will always weaponskill after you do, even if you have a party macro stating you're about to skillchain.

Sometimes if you're lucky enough their weapon skill will chain off your first one and given the correct element can sometimes provide interesting results if you then weapon skill off the resulting chain, but it's still annoying.

Theres a reason people say "skillchains are for solo content" People want things to die in seconds, and unfortunately it takes longer than that to set up a skillchain + magic burst.

Exactly why I made this Topic. Skillchain system has been here since day 1 release.

In 11 years they added jobs and give the ability to self skill chain with the limitation of TP, time, recast time of abilities such as Chain Affinity and Scholar using 2 Strategems. Can't say much for Dancer since they can convert finishing moves.

Point is jobs were added, reasons like carrying gear several sets, and jobs that Skillchain has evolved so much than 11 years ago.

No adjustments were ever made to TP and Skillchain interruption.

I mean how hard can it be? If we have gear and Aquaviel to prevent spells from being interrupted, then I'm sure it can't be impossible to prevent jobs that use Self Skilkchains.

It's so annoying telling people over and over not to WS or cast a spell while self chaining. As a Scholar we only get 5 Strategems max, wasting 2 of them is ridiculous when people interrupt it.

Doing it the traditional way, yeah it can take a while to set up. They are still worth doing, just have to go about things a little bit differently. Which is why knowing how your weaponskills chain is of use, since best way to do it anymore is by paying attention to what weaponskills others are using and knowing which ones you can chain off of with a good weaponskill.

Too bad magic bursts are not as easy to arrange without the coordination, though I am sure an on the ball mage could still burst off of incidental skillchains if they notice them happening. Too bad so many DD's blink when doing a weaponskill it makes it hard for those not familiar with skillchains to know if one is happening or not.

I agree, I've skillchained off random weaponskills in delve farms just because I could, random magic bursts tend to be just that, random. Sometimes you do notice a trend with the DD`s though, and can get off an MB.

I wasn't disagreeing with the OP about skillchains, I was just saying why it's the way it is. Everything is just a zerg fest and if you manage to get a skillchain off in all that it's mostly down to luck.

If skillchains are to come back as a killing tactic SE need to stop adding bosses that you need to zerg down before they get off that nut crunching TP move that ejects everyone from the battlefield with a 24hr temp ban.
