Approaching it doesn't make it disappear, targeting it does. If you can get up to it and then target it and examine it before it disappears, it'll actually open up your Mog House menu.

The only thing you'll be able to do with it is access your delivery box, though. Your storage is inaccessible and you cannot change jobs.
