Way back "effectively" yeah you could only really get to like 15 (dunes) assuming you played... in... 2005?
Since then... they've changed/added sooooooooooooo many things, you can solo using the FoV/GoV to 99 faster than you could even pretend to get to 75 in oldschool parties.
You will likely need help doing the limit breaks though. So, I guess, "effectively" 55? before you need help doing the boreal nms. They made the 50 soloable.
But, yes, 60 easily, you can solo exp to 99.
Wow they changed a lot.. Used to not be like that at all
Being from the beginning myself, I would almost say the game is 100% different....
Except the gimps with good gear is the same it always was. The worse you are at hitting ctrl + 1, the better your gear generally is. But I digress.
You can get from 1 to 20 in like... 3 hours, even from a new account these days... Instead of the 12 hours+ it used to take...
EP mobs give (jesus christ) like 100 exp almost minimum... remember when we used to get 15exp for a 3 minute EP fight lolololol?
Cool well I'm glad in a way.. I'm playing a white mage a little now. At lvl 10 still using lvl 1 equipment. Don't kill people as fast... How should I go about getting upgraded weapons and stuff? AH doesnt have anything for me and need to get some new weapons at least for killing stuff lol
Well, another sad but truth, the way we used to play, it's totally and unequivocally abolished. It's an all but impossibility to acquire gear with which to level in...
You're basically, screwed. You have option A which is ask other people to borrow/craft you things you need, option B level the craft and make your own stuff... C buy what NPC's have available... or the only real option D... Use what you got... keep killing the weakest possible mobs and grind it out.
Make friends, re-up old friends... beg them to get you in abyssea and leech up some levels and skip the gear conundrum altogether.
Karah pretty much nailed it. You can (and prolly should) buy what you need from NPCs to get you to 30-don't bother with top gear, you'll never need it, just whatever you can afford (or beg/borrow). After that just leach to 99. Even SE has given up on below 99 content, as evidenced by the 2 new job's AF being 99+ (the traditional level is 40-42 weap, 52-60 AF). you can pretty much skip aby as well, just get enough to get you the cruor set for your job, then go spam reives and buy a reive weap 1st-they are almost all more poweful than anything you'll get from Aby anyway. Get the gear, too. it will be enough to let you participate in current end game if you are any good at your job.
You may want to head back to Aby/GoV once you are set whenever you can, you'll need to skill-up the job if you burned it and you won't be doing that in reives. It doesn't matter how well you know your job, if your skill levels are level 30 equivalent you won't be accomplishing anything. Especially take advantage of GoV whenever Martial Master is up, it and prowess help ALOT with the normally abysmal skill-up rate. And if you just burned the job you are likely to be too broke to afford skill-up food, ESPECIALLY if you still need to buy spells.
Good luck. You are on the wrong server or I'd say look me up for tag-along things.
Thanks guys.. Kind of a let down to be honest. I was hoping to enjoy the game some but apparently it's just burn to highest lvl. A lot of the stuff you talk about I know nothing about like aby/got and what is a reives? Totally confused about all that
It's hard not to be disappointed. Game really took a hell of a nose dive in recent years.
Reive... is kinda like Garrison, you should remember that, right? Only we're the destroyers. Or, better yet, it's like Expeditionary force, if you had ever done that. It's almost literally that re-vamped... but I'd be shocked if 1% of the population even knew what that was. It was rare to do, even back in the ol' days.
GoV/FoV is a book, on the ground. It has objectives, (kill this mob 5 times) when objective is complete, you get an extra... 3k roughly exp.
So you kill 5 mobs, get 500 exp from kills + 3k more for the book, it has substantially increased the speed of exp gain.
Aby... is unlike anything I can compare it too... it's... flippin insane. You get + 70 all stats. Basically 100% crit rate. Triple your base HP/MP... mobs melt... literally, and give 600 exp per kill... it's bananas. (it's sightly more complex than that, but yeah that's the jest of it.)
yeah, these days your best bet is to XP burn up, then back-track using your uber gear to solo/low-man the old content you are interested in. Aby takes a fair amount of work to start, but once you have the better atmas and the like it's a freaking cakewalk... for most jobs (you prolly won't tear the place up soloing brd/dnc as an example). Not sure what jobs were your goal, but if you read up on the threads you should get a good idea what is wanted in end-game. And if you play anything else be ready to solo, ALOT, because you won't get invites on your ___ (fill in the blank unwanted job). Your best bets right now are prolly brd and cor; pld is wanted but they will be calling you gimp without Aegis/Ochain. As things stand don't bother with rune and you'll need $ before geo or blm or whm are viable (truckload of spells to buy/farm, and blm isn't all that wanted these days anyway, geo is a maybe once their merits/JSE come out). Rdm is on the scrap heap right now (the job was mostly superceded by scholar). Blue-cheap but a LONG process to farm your spells, if you just get the ones used in endgame it might be shorter but talk to a blue. Rng-waste of time, same with dnc main (you will need 49 for subbing though). Not sure about the rest, thf is good, but there are alot out there. Any DD, useful, but you will need to be in a decent shell or make friends to get into endgame stuff since the game is full of them. Beast is the easiest job for solo (it was designed to solo), but I don't know if it's wanted at all past reives. Pup, awesome once you get the alternator, but until then you'll likely be soloing and it costs alot out the gate (also, mandatory downtime to build frames).
