Absolutely nothing. Maybe replace the FFXI ahrimans with the XIV ones. XI has better art direction and music than XIV does by a longshot.

As long as they fix FFXIV before PS3 release and actually advertise it FFXIV could be very sucsessful.
Graphics. That's just about it.
I'd never trade XI's music for XIV's, not a chance!
Ronfaure, Gustaberg, Zi'tah, Khazam, Movalpolos, the Tavnazian Archipelago... heck even small places like Mhaura and Selbina got their own theme and they're all beautiful. I also like Distant Worlds (performed by Susan Calloway) better than Answers. Maybe it's because the whole game feels kinda empty, but I like XI's more classic direction than XIV's "reinvented".
Only thing I'd take is the graphic and that's about it.
They really need to just bite the bullet and upgrade our graphics. There's really no excuse when this game keeps on giving to them 12 months a year at around 6 million dollars per month. I'm not much a fan of my dollars being used to pay other people's paychecks on other games when it should be used on the game I'm paying for. And that's not an unrealistic expectation. I am paying a monthly fee for FFXI. Not FFXIV. Not FF15. Not DQXwhatever. But for FFXI. I expect it to be updated. I'm being patient and not making a fuss so far. I can live with my money going elsewhere to keep them afloat or whatnot... for a time but only for so long. And right now I want better graphics for the PC version. Other games have done it. It's time FFXI steps up to the plate and just do it. We'll probably not see anymore expansions as long as the PS2 is supported. The least they can do is give us something new to look at until the end days.

Nah it wont shut down anytime soon . . . . . it's free and people like free. . . . People also like seeing progress and seeing what direction the game is heading in so enough people will stay just for that . . And SE will keep it open just for that . . . But yeah the game is pretty bad right now XDDD if anything I would take from FFXI to FFXIV XD.
lol ya its your right to dream I don't mind people complaining it just your point of view. I could be wrong too hope I'm not. While agree PS2 is holding FFXI back at same time, I also know the FFXI has run its course and is winding its cycle down which was the whole reason for SE putting out new MMO FFXIV. What people either don't know or have forgotten is that Japan is primarily console based not a lot of them game on PC they prefer there consoles for games. So the likelihood of Japan SE dropping PS2 and cutting off most of there countries access well just not going to happen. Now FFXIV yes there is no disputing it has had major problems from the beta onward it has been improving at a steady pace, and if the public would just stop bashing it for moment. Give it time to mature, give constructive ideas on how they can improve it and stop just saying it sucks, why does it suck, whats your problem with it. Maybe then we can get a better game so when FFXI is done we have a new home to take its place.
XIV has lots of features that XI could use, just as XI has lots of features XIV could use. And I'm not saying this to make the games more similar, these are simple features that wouldn't change the gameplay. Many were already mentioned..
1) Linkshell embles/shield crests
2) Retainers/bazaar mules
3) Better crafting system
4) More teleport points (although admittedly moving around is a lot easier on XI by now)
5) Show status effects of party members
6) Show remaining time on own effects
7) Multiple linkshells equipped
8) Better chatlog filtering/organizing, customizable tabs, different log windows
9) Minimap on the screen
10) Customizable HUD
11) Using the numpad to input numbers
12) Built-in IME support
13) No POL, better/faster login and updates
Just a few, I'm sure there's more. Again, not saying there aren't things XIV could use, the list is easily twice as long. However, XIV is a very new game compared to XI. Some of these features have been suggested for XI for ages (literally) and are still not implemented.
