It would be kind of nice to know what he's been doing these past few years. So far as we know, he's just sort of been chillin' out in Riverne - with a small army of dragons - doing nothing....

"He's too powerful" was always a pretty lame excuse, as there can be dozens of story reasons why his power might be limited. Like, oh, that fellow with the doll who's been siphoning power from the avatars for over a decade now....

Heck, even the Celestials make it clear we're only getting a small fraction of their power when they give us their Whispers.

And, honestly? We've saved the world half a dozen times already. Even Mr. Arrogant-Pants Dragon has got to admit we're pretty OK by now. I can totally see a quest line that ends with an exausted (slightly de-powered and smaller in stature) Bahamut who agrees to "temporarily" ally with you while he recovers his power.

I always thot they could make a smaller version cause its jsut a avatar of the main man himself. But i understand their point.

I know they said a while back that AoE targeting of KO'd players isn't possible, so I think Phoenix should be an Astral Flow avatar that doesn't cancel Astral Flow when used, so you can summon her multiple times during the ability. She'd revive one player with no weakened status, no experience loss, and full HP.

This way, Phoenix wouldn't completely step on Arise, since Phoenix would only be available a few minutes every hour, she wouldn't grant Reraise, and she'd consume 100% of the summoner's MP, in addition to requiring that Astral Flow hadn't already been used recently for another purpose, such as Alexander.

I don't think it's too overpowered: it's basically a chance to pretend one player didn't just die. If that player really deserves to be dead, then it will happen again quickly, maintaining the homeostasis of Vana'diel.

I really don't think we should be setting ourselves up to fail by even entertaining the idea of Astral Flow only "avatars". There's no mechanical reason why such things are any less overpowered than proper avatars that also happen to have a potent ability available under Astral Flow. In terms of Odin and Alexander, Perfect Defence (and ostensibly Zantetsuken) are very powerful abilities but they're tied to Astral Flow regardless of how the rest of the avatar works.

I'm sure any of us could write a balanced SMN01 >> SMN99 Blood Pact progression and accompanying acquisition quest for Phoenix. Some of us almost certainly have. The same goes for Bahamut. Everyone's made the point that we only summon a fraction of an avatar's power so the innate power of an avatar is irrelevant. I mean, those who've done some WotG stuff need only look at Atomos' capabilities, and SE apparently have no "power" excuses for him - just the standard excuses.

I know any decent avatar being produced by SE in the future is unlikely, but that just means we need to vocalise our expectations even louder and at a higher level. We shouldn't settle for baseline unless there are literally no other options.

Then vote Tenzen and in the details portion of the questionairre, specify that Phoenix leaves his blade and the Prime Avatar becomes available. It's a popularity contest, so if he gets the most votes, that bird may come out of Tenzen's blade and meet the tips of our blades, and then she could become available to summoners.

Worst case scenario, if Tenzen wins, we may get Phoenix as an NM with treasure drops. Best case, new avatar. Either way, we should finally get to SEE Phoenix in FFXI.

Don't hold your breath, they can't even deliver us the avatars they promised years ago.

Just read what is coming on next update........./em sends out a search party for Cait Sith. So disappointing my excitement for this avatar got slapped to ground. I don't think we will be getting her. All we get is build ups for big let downs so why hope for other avatar when we don't get the ones already promised? Such lies.

Now it's been a while since I did CoP, but didn't Phoenix merge with Selh'teus before you fight Promathia?

Yes, his wings were actually Phoenix's wings.

Yes and no... The Phoenix shard contained withing Tenzen's blade fused with Selh'teus... giving him those wings I want so bad...
He essentially became an avatar of sorts for Phoenix... kinda. Metaphysics is complicated.
But suffice it to say, there are many shards of Phoenix that can be awoken and thus, summonable avatars of Her.
And even the shard in Tenzen's sword can be "reawoken" because the other shards of Her exist.
