Eh, WotG added Campaign and 3 new zones. Other than that, yeah, you're right. I've argued in the past that WotG was the starting point for the ps2 truly holding us back but, it still did actually add some extra layers to the game, but it was the last instance of this. As for ToAU, it had way more than that. WotG and ToAU also added jobs (I guess CoP didn't but it more than made up for that). These are the things that are pretty much impossible now given what they've been giving us since 2008. Either way: I don't see us getting any full blown expansion packs again unless ps2 is dropped, so I don't feel we should be paying the same price until such a time. But again, I will regardless, in hope that it will change before things become too stagnant and the game dies.

I do agree with this. We have been paying same price for years & for years were getting our money's worth. You have a point that we are paying for nothing expect being able to play now. They suckered us into spend $60 bucks for 6 add-ons, with only 4 of them being worth it. I know I only paid 10 bucks for ToAU when it was released & it was well worth it, not $10 for an add-on.

We're no longer also paying for work on new content, because of ps2 limitations. Thus the price should be lowered or ps2 support demolished. I'll pay it nonetheless, until the game dies, which won't take long without expansions.

First, you don't know if SE will introduce new contents like new areas, continents, mobs, cityes and so on, even if they drop the PS2 support, maybe they'll drop support but they'll never do the newest things you hope... SE never sayd that: sorry guys, we have 2 new continent : the gigas homeland and the orcish empire, but cause ps2 limitations we keep hold it in the closet..

after that, keep in mind that the game released Wotg (not completed lineup missions) years ago and then no new contents for a while, a long while... after 3 mini-add-ons, they released 3 Abyssea add-on representing the greatest revolution in the game since 8 years, all in a total of 6 months after years of immobility... not everyone has completed the abyssea stuffs and I think we can wait longer before seeing what they have in mind for step 95 and 99 without menace to quit for lack of new contents..

You're missing the point. On the road we are on right now, with ps2 support: FFXI is doomed to stagnation. Abyssea and the add-ons didn't actually add anything new, and only Abyssea changed the game (through a rewrite rather than an extension of the game). I am fully aware they haven't announced any new content. If they announced that they will stop supporting the ps2 in a year, when they release a new expansion pack, I would find that more than reasonable.

But, again, I don't know if they'll introduce new content like new areas if they drop ps2 support (which would be simultaneous because they can't drop ps2 support if they aren't adding anything?)

At the very least, dropping the ps2 would mean there's at least a chance that they'd add content such as that, as they would be freed from those ridiculous constraints.

SE wont drop PS2, nor will they drop POL (POL is integrated with the game itself) Unless SE did some serious reprogramming dropping PS2 would not be some magic answer to everything.

Yeah just imagine how many JP play the game on PS2. I am sure it is more then 1/3 if you count dual boxers. maybe 1/3 play on PS2 fulltime but am sure more then half them use a PS2 either for main char. or dual boxing. You can not just tell them all to go buy something new. That is their baby & they will keep there baby till the game comes to an end.

Do you have a source for that statistic? Based on what I know about Japanese people (I lived in Tokyo for a year and majored in Japanese in college) even if that statistic was true, most Japanese people would just switch over to PC without complaining too much if the new content was worth it, and maybe a few isolated crazies would make videos of them breaking their game discs.

yep I agree with that, but if someone says 30% how to you respond to there thread without having actual stats? I am just giving an example as to how many JP do actually use PS2 not based on any specific numbers, just the fact it has been reported multiple times about how JP players prefer PS2 over PC or 360 ( I have no clue why ).

Off to play some Black Ops (wife just bought it she loves killing zombies lol)
