I had this problem yesterday when trying to do a Skirmish. Sorta. As it turned out, half the PT had never been to the device in Cirdas and thus couldn't get to it. So then we decided to try dying near a root and tractoring people through... This does work, but only if you do it right.

You see, SE had actually thought ahead and realized people wouldn't want to actually do reives, and thus made tractor not work during a reive battle. You also cannot tractor someone who's in a reive battle if you're not part of it. The only way to get this to work is if both the tractor caster and the person who's dying enter a reive battle and leave to lock themselves out for 5 mins. Then during those 5 mins the person dies and the tractor caster can pull them to the other side.

But then it gets more annoying still. It can be hard to tractor them ALL the way outside reive battle area. If anyone of you didn't know, you only need to zone to be able to rejoin a reive right away, and you zone when you get tractored. So when you reappear at the tractored spot, you're considered part of the reive. Thus, the person who tractored the dead guy cannot raise the person (Or tractor them further away) until they can enter the reive themselves again since the game won't allow people outside the reive to cast on battle participants.

The devs went out of their way to make this annoying and stupid. This is a shining example of horrible game design. Doing a small casual event like Skirmish should NOT be this annoying. And for the record (And slightly off topic), I don't care if they're adding a KI that'll allow people to climb those vines down the road (There's a vine in Moh Gates that, if you could climb it, will allow you to access Cirdas without doing reives), the overall design of this is just retarded. For all intents and purposes, that "climb" survival skill should've been added on day one along with the other survival skills. I figure they left it out because they wanted Morimar to be a pain in the butt while content in the zone is relevant, showing further their intent to troll and frustrate their customers. You could make it to every section of that zone, including the Naakual, without touching a reive if we had the climbing ability right now.

This is just bad game design, and the devs should feel bad for the people who have put up with this trash. I don't mean any of that to be an insult either, but sometimes you can't sugercoat crap, you know? I just feel the devs don't realize our time is worth something too. ...And I'm still waiting for more lowman content which half the player base on both the NA and JP side said they wanted in the "What do you want to see?" thread Matsui made back in August...

You only need to travel to the site once. Then you can teleport there. I don't think a little trouble on a one time trip is a huge deal.

Well, some of the people I was with couldn't follow directions very well which made the whole ordeal that much more of a pain. Not SE's fault in that regard, but it's still a very unpleasent memory (It seriously took upwards to an hour or more to get everyone to the enigmatic device finally). Plus, we didn't know tractor didn't unnecessarily work during in a reive, so we had to have people home point after dying to run back and try the "run in and out" method. It was more than a little trouble, heh.

Even so, there's still plenty of people who haven't been there yet, either because they just got the expansion recently or they weren't aware of the Enigmatic Devices when people were doing reives. In either case, since MMO designs usually take into account the long term given their (hopefully) long life, this problem seems to be a bit short sighted on SE's part. I'm sure SE would like FF11 to be around years from now, so it should've been obvious that stuff like this would happen down the road (Although I think SE didn't think it'd happen quite so soon). It's still bad design for the long term.

But to be fair, I believe they have said they're making reives lowmannable so maybe this won't be a problem soon. I just feel it never should have been a problem in the first place.
