Tarus are not cowards. Sometimes recklessly brave maybe but not cowards.
I do think that merits based on racial characteristics have merit. ^^
It does bring up a sad thing though. I wish race wasnt the term because it brings up all sorts of wrong impressions. It would probably be better to focus on the advantages of the races not the disadvantages.
Examples might be using the tails on Mithra and Galka for say, Whiplash merit ability. Chameleon (is there already something named this) merits for Humes adding on to Humes ability to blend into any job moderately easily. Ampified Hearing merit for avoiding/detecting mobs for Elvaen and Tarus extended ears. Now these may just be silly ideas based on racial attributes but do you see what I am getting at? It could be a fun/humorous way to add more merits which we could use added already.
It's cool, but that also gives those races a distinct advantage at particular situations in my opinion. That's why I suggested that if there are racial merits then they should focus on the weak points of a race. This let's a race deficient in one area make up for it partly, rather than have a race even further bolstered by stats and abilities. Think RSE, but with Merits.
Isn't this what you do with the current merits anyway? Low mithra str? boost it with merits. Low elvaan dex? boost it with merits.

race means nothing, only main difference is Galka/Taru HP/MP and even that can be somewhat fixed with gear.
I like the race merits idea, probably because i'm hume and my gear determines pretty much all my stats from being mediocre, but anyway! You can currently only add 5? extra Str dex agi etc into you're char which for my humeness putting it into vit because it helps all my jobs... that brings me up to the lvl of say... a 75 baseline galka? Not sure on those exact statistics but you get where i'm going, I like the idea of being able to overcome the shortfalls of your race with race specific merits, not just everyone being able to have more of this or that, IE galka using his mp merits to get up to that of an elvaan or taru using his hp merits to get up to that of a hume, but being able to go beyond that for more personalization of your play style. In short, keep the race stats the way they are, give more customization to the races through merits.

I am not really advocating more of what each race already has. I am talking more of racial characteristics not racial stats. Big ears have never had an effect on mob detection as far as I know. Make something peculiar to each race an actual meritable ability or skill.
Merits to combat racial weaknesses seems to defeat the purpose of having racial differences in the first place.
I feel if SE isnt willing to implement a race change system, something needs to be done. I'm sick of the huge hp difference my taru suffers in abyssea. Even with all the atma and abyssite, im heavily gimped. The only suggestion I can offer is one I read on these forums. Make race specific merits to even the playing field. As I stated in another thread im not willing to start over as I have over 1k days playtime making that not an option. Please SE, do something about this.
if you think you are gimped because of your race, then you are doing it wrong, yes you have a little less HP, but you can still preform you job as well as any other race. SE does not need to change race stats nor do they need to add a race change service. Leveling is so easy now, make a new character if you feel you are gimped so badly
There really is no difference in the races that matter, only two that matter, and even small at that, would be Taru and Galka HP/MP
