    Soul Pyre Rewards.

Hello everyone! I've actually just come to discuss/ask the reasoning behind designing an expansion entirely for level 99 Players, with a "Treasure Casket" System that spits out items that are so worthless a level 1 player would toss them? I mean, Lets go over some of the things I've seen in Soul Pyre.

    Arrowwood Log.
    Fruit Seeds.
    Grain Seeds.
    Moko Grass.

I can buy some of this stuff from an NPC for about 20 gil. And most of it sells back to the NPC for 1-20. These rewards are unusual. Its an Expansion marketed to level 99 Players, and their consolation prize for Pyres is something i could get from Caskets in North gustaberg.

Was there any particular reasoning for this? I understand the 50-51 Bayld, as its a new system, you probably had in mind a balance between reives and this so Reives were more effective, of course.

I'm not asking that each Pyre have Midrium Ingots and Cursed Breastplate -1's, But the current pool i've come across is, just terrible... Most of these items new players would probably toss without thinking twice about it.

I'd also like to bring up that apparently only 6 Pyre can be up at any given time, and they seem to have a "Respawn" timer, Similar to How Abyssea Chests were... I ask if you re-evaluate the maximum Soul Pyre per zone, Maybe double it? As it stands, if a zone has more than 2 people actively farming it, It becomes nearly impossible to find more than 1 an hour... If this was intentional, carry on.

Anyway, Summary of all this is, Whats the deal with the "Rewards" from Soul Pyre? I won't go into Helm although I do enjoy seeing an Arrowwood Log and Sulfur fall into my inventory in a zone where the lowest level enemy is 101.

You (really) already know why... but a reasonable explanation would be welcomed. It's no different than Voidwatch, that is 75 minimum content, that still drops things that are of no use at all to anyone (under or over 75).

Not to derail this on the first post into a logwatch thread, the same as the HELM system.

The soul pyres take a (ton) of checking to make them line up to 0 distortion, and they certainly as you said do not appear enough.

Would be nice to have (actual) "balance" in the effort:reward ratio, once in a while. Until some method of determining direction/distance is (discovered) its a complete guess... for... a.. log?... really... such a huge (time sink) <((magic words))>.

It's their totally cheap strategy with SoA.... how do you designed one of the worst expansion ever to grace FFXI? Make sure it has the worst reward - effort ratio, tons of walled areas so you cannot progress, huge amount of bayld needed to do anything worth doing, and pretty much everything is a pain to do and depend on server wide effort. As it is now, Reive is totally blows and pretty much abandoned by most players already. 2 weeks out and the vote is pretty much in, SoA take the cake and the title of the most worthless expansion to date. Very slow with updates and tweaks, and generally reviled overall, with one of the most boring grindtastic fest ever created.

This end of April update better be mind blowing because right now, SoA is dead on arrival....

I guess I understand the seeds since the Mog Gardens thing was supposed to be released with the expansion, but that's now kind of a pointless reward because they added an NPC that sells all seeds now. Heck, I can even see the reason to add logs to the pool (ya know since you're in a jungle and all) but really? How about some divine logs or bloodwood logs? You know... stuff you can't just buy from an NPC.

I don't even bother to check soul pyres during the super rare times I even bother going to any Adoulin areas. Why waist a few minutes of my life for some fruit seeds and 50 bayld.

I'm seriously wondering if SE is even trying anymore. This whole expansion feels it was slapped together fast, with little thought and absolutely no play testing.

I used to think they were trying to kill this game to get everyone to move to xiv, then xiv flopped and I heard they had a new mega-expansion coming out and all this great other stuff was going to be added/fixed so I got super excited and hopeful for the future of Vana'diel. Now on the eve of the arr rerelease I am back to feeling like they are actively trying to kill this game and they just threw us a few bones and empty promises to keep our subs coming in the last couple years

Despite the sh*tty sub-reward I've mentioned, I'd always, always check Soul Pyre Elphy. They can drop Skirmish Items, which are several Mil on each server.

Though I am getting increasingly more sad at the expansion, I mean, I know WoTG/ToAU Didn't launch with loads of Content... And I know this Expansion has Skirmish, Reives, and Wildskeeper Reive-Bosses... 2/3 of which I haven't had a chance to experience yet, mostly due to the wild restrictions and not because of my own cause... But it does feel a tad empty. I finally got access to Mission 2 though!

Though, for what its worth, I do have a Skirmish Set I'm going to be using today, wish me luck :\

I would wait and not use it - till after the adjustment. You are wasting your time and your key item, just sell them off. It's craptacular events that punish everyone that die.

That would be the Reives you are thinking of, Skirmish is the event with all of the augmented weapons, some of which beat RMEs.

I'm sorry but I have to ask. I fail at these soul pyres so does anyone know of a good method of grabbing the item from such?

    - Play the casket guessing game at Mummers' Coalition (if you've done a lot of Treasure Caskets, you'll already know what this is like. Pick the medium difficulty option, it's much easier to win with 6 guesses, and you want to be able to win with some consistency to get winnings multipliers)
    - Use the Mummers' Medals to buy a ton of Soul Spectacles. 20 medals = 1 spectacles

The spectacles basically give you one free guess at a soul pyre. You'll probably burn through these fast, but you can get one stack of 99 spectacles for less than 2k medals, and it's not that hard to rack them up. You'll want to have some around anyway, in case you find a pyre with something cool inside.

As for the actual process of unlocking a pyre, what I've usually done is to just make make minor adjustments in my position, but only in one direction at a time. If the % goes up (which is what you don't want), I reverse the movement I just made, and try moving in another direction.
