account vs. membership and buying from US online store

Okay, technical support said I am supposed to register a separate members account. This directly conftradicts the FAQ, but oh well.

After buying the digital download, it took me to a blank page. I looked around to try to figure out what I am supposed to do. I then left after ten minutes and when I came back the information to download was in email.

So, if you like me don't know what a blank page means, it means wait 10 minutes or more and the information will arrive in email.

Now on to decypher this points thing which is explained nowhere that I have seen yet.

The squeenix online store wants me to login or register. The FAQ says that squeenix membership is different from squeenix account. And, it says that you can login using your username and password if you have an account, and that links your membership with your account, but when I try that, it tells me that my username or password is wrong. I've also tried first logging into account management and then going to the store, but it wants me to login again.

I've read posts from people who registered as a member and then couldn't associate the game with their account.

So, what am I doing wrong? Or, what should I do?
