My mains are Dragoon and DRK. What shape am I in?

I quit for a while but I'm returning to the game (there's no quitting this game I swear) and I'm wondering how well I'll fare in the current endgame.

My only 90 is DRG but I was leveling my DRK to 90 when I quit. I have my DRG fairly decently geared, still working on DRK gear. Do I currently fit anywhere in the endgame? (When I get 99, of course.)

if you start your own groups for stuff you can fit wherever you want. You don't have to be a slave to what's popular and what isn't.

That being said, you're going to want to level more jobs. It doesn't take that long anymore, so don't be afraid to do so. As long as you have all the subs you need for your jobs though, you should be fine. 90-99 doesn't radically change much.

As for joining groups, the part Alha forgot to include, DRK is always preferred over DRG. Gearing DRK to a good level is not to bad to do and you need no Emp/Relic to make the job effective, the same is to be said of DRG however. DRG and DRK you should make the Occasionally Attacks Twice weapons from Trials of the Magian, as they are better than your Emp weapon, and take much less time than the relic ever would. As for a short summery of what gear to get for DRK should you choose to work on that, refer to this post I have in another thread. It gives you a basic TP setup, with a small bit of advice on what to get for a WS set.

Also, since the release of level 99, you can now merit WSs, there are 14, 1 for every weapon, but you can only max 3, currently the WS is almost worthless unless it is maxed (5/5) and requires 100 merits to do so. As such, I advise you 5/5 Stardiver(Polearm) and Resolution(Great Sword) as they are 100% STR mod WSs which are the best WSs for each of those 2 jobs, though in some cases Drakesbane comes close to or beats Stardiver so far as I know. For basic setups for the jobs, I will give you some links, and I hope it helps and is of some use to you. Besides that, welcome back to FFXI, and hope you enjoy your stay!

I sadly have no set for Stardiver because I do not have the extra merits to get it, but mostly I think its just about the same as the Reso set, stack on tons of STR & possibly use the Gorget/Belt, idk if the are good for Stardiver though.

I'm a pretty veteran DRK and DRG player (different character), but all this newness is rather hard to swallow, so I appreciate the help

What are the "flavor of the month" jobs right now?

So far as DDs go, WAR is at the top, but needs the Emp, Ukon, to be that good, next up is DRK and SAM, not sure which of the 2 is better right now, but they are the next best, MNK is up next to WAR on most things but once you start hitting higher level targets MNK starts to fail thanks to being a 1 handed job I believe. DRG is kinda in 5th/last place as far as the main DDs go. For support jobs WHM & SCH are the kings, RDM has basically fallen into being unused completely. Past that not sure what else to say. The most popular jobs of use atm are WAR, MNK, and WHM.

More like flavor of the year jobs... WAR SAM and DRK basically. WHM is more or less the king of support. everything else is mostly left in the dust, especially PLD RDM and BRD. Jobs like BST PUP and SMN are wanted/used in certain contents and mostly ignored outside of those. WoE if you do that is one of them, as these jobs are minimally affected by weakness so it becomes "throw pets at it til it dies." PUP and BST are also very effective in Meeble burrows, which often requires the participants to act independently, and is often done with 3 people leaving little room for a dedicated support role.
