Why can RDM use H2H weapons?

This has bothered the heck out of me for the past 10 years.

Either take us off h2h or give us skill for it. I don't understand why we can use these weapons, it's like a glitch or something. It makes NO sense. Maybe they thought RDMs would rock /WAR and hit things with sub skill or something, but they should have at least stopped making hand to hand weapons available to RDM after the 75 cap, but yet they continue to make h2h weapons for RDMs even now.

This always puzzled me as a RDM. I mean, I'm not particularly interested in punching things (I always thought the +DMG +Delay format of H2H weapons was just plain weird).

Of all the things I'm concerned about as a Red Mage, though, this doesn't even make the list. Confuses me, yes. Concerns me, no.

And heaven forbid a Red Mage somehow obtain skill using one of these knuckled monstrosities! They'd be able to use weapon skills reserved for high class H2H users like Thieves, such as Spinning Attack, without even having to even sub Monk! And they might actually be able to hit something with it, that's dangerous, those enspells could put out an eye!

Yeah, but if they do that, then they'd have to do that for Staff too! And we know Red Mage isn't getting taken off of Staff, so then we'd have to face the reality of melee Red Mages with Staves!

RDM/DRK would rule Vana'diel with the Last Resort changes, and their tier II enspells would blot out the sun! Cataclysm spam while subbing Paladin, Warrior, Monk, or White Mage would also be far too much area of effect power for Red Mage to handle! Using Shattersoul with Gain-INT backing it would obsolete White Mages buffing melee Summoners, replacing White Mage's spot in parties once again! Spirit Taker and Convert and Refresh together would just be too OP for FFXI to handle!

I'm actually more concerned about the prospect of setting my hands on fire.

I don't think even Pre-NA release, RDM had H2H skill (This is when we had C-Marksmanship). However, the level cap was at level 50. My best assumption is RDM/MNK must've been a thing back then.

Red mages actually swinging a staff? What an abomination! May Altana purge the lands of such a monstrosity.

I assume it was for stat modifiers at some point while using marksman/archery. Other than that im sure they used it to lump in and allow rdm to use those raw fish eating knuckles for whatever reason that is. But at the time that wouldnt have been a thing. Could be part of the reason, heck if i know. Other than that maybe they just saw weapons with low number of equipable jobs and said "Hmmmm lets tack a few more onto that, M'kay?"

They did at one point during the NA beta test, RDM/MNK was indeed a thing for parties.

RDM has never had H2H skill ... ever.

SE put them on the knuckles the same way they put them on staves and other jobs on various weapons. Plain stupidity. Most likely in pre-design they had RDM at a low rank and it got dropped at some point but the weapon class template was never modified.

Doing damage is for WAR's, DRK is about soloing 75 content yo.....

There is a weasel made out of crunchy peanut butter who exists in the fifth dimension. His name is Richard Breckenridge and he appears before anyone who ingests his or her own body weight in hallucinogenics within less than a month's time.

Richard was around to offer a lot of input on equipment early in FFXI's life; his influence can be seen on everything from the nonsensical list of jobs on so much Hand-to-Hand equipment to the scatter-shot statistical bonuses on the original sets of Artifact and Relic armor.
