Transfer Characters Between Accounts

This is a service that is offered in most modern MMORPGs I've played these days, but Final Fantasy XI does not offer this service.

To explain, for those who may not get it off of the title, I want the ability to transfer a character from one Playonline account, to another. Not just within a single Square Enix account, but to wherever.

I don't care if it's a bit pricy ($20 seems fairly standard), but the option should be there. I got my start on the game playing on a friend's account, with a character he made just for me. I then went and bought the game myself along with the only available expansion at the time (rise of the zilart). I've been playing ever since, but I always wished I could play with that original character a bit more.

I'm know I'm not the only one in this situation. And I know people who have done this sort of thing much more recently as well. Would it really hurt to give us the option to transfer characters to a new account? Or merge characters from two accounts into one, for that matter?

Opens the door for RMT, and the rules have stated since the beginning that multiple people are never allowed to share the same account. It's one person per account, so if you share and then get your own account later, that's the price of breaking the rule, start over from scratch.

Agreed with Bungiefan.

As lazy as the adventurers of Vana'diel (esp the newer ones) have become over the past couple years RMT would have a new option to get cash by selling off fully leveled characters. And if said rmt could sell chars with empy's for even a higher price, then here comes more competition for trials like Glavoid and Chloris which are already a pain. Even seal nm would become overcrowded.

As it stands now they need to get a whole new copy of the game but with the ability to send items to members of the same account they could start 10 chars on one account, have 1 99 they use that to get all the seals, +2 items, empy drops, vw drops, etc. Fully stock the other chars, burn them up, gear them and sell them off.

Way to much bad in this suggestion.

You seem to have missed, or glossed over the part where I suggested Square Enix charge for the service themselves. It's a missed opportunity on their part, and if they don't take advantage of it, you know someone else will, other people probably already are.

As I mentioned, this is a pretty standard service in most modern MMO games. Final Fantasy needs to catch up to the times, particularly if it's going to remain competitive enough in sales to remain online in the coming years.

I've been watching the game's population decline at a pretty steady rate, I've been with the game pretty much since the beginning. I've even lost accounts and characters and had to start over from scratch with new characters because of the way Square Enix does its account registration. I would like the ability to merge those accounts with the new ones, now that I have found the old codes, etc.

The door for RMT is open with or without this suggestion. My request has nothing to do with RMT, it is a request for a useful and enjoyable service that would appeal to all variety of players. A service that players enjoy on many more populated MMOs.

Seems to be the only feedback section I can find. And there seem to be plenty of similar posts in this section. When I talked to a GM about the subject, she directed me here to 'request the feature'.

It happens all the time, but they do nothing to regulate it. Either they don't care, or they're too lazy.

That's unfortunate. Most successful MMOs seem to rely alot on fan feedback to maintain success.
