Maybe you should re-read my post. Lol.
I really think at this stage they wont find it financially feasible to launch XI on any new consoles (even though porting XI from PS2 to PS3 downloadable would certainly help those who dont want to play on xbox or PC)
As I stand looking out from my mog house window, I reminisce about the old days and the many ups and downs of my adventures throughout Vana'diel.![]()
It is then that I know achievement.
And how much will an Wii certified external HDD cost??? And you can't be serious about running a game off an USB external HDD. I understands that everything can be loaded onto the internal memory and all that at the start of each start of the game and all that but anyone seriously wants to do the whole PS2 way of things AGAIN???
Why would you need a Wii-certified HDD? The console can use regular memory cards. You must be confusing it with the Xbox 360.
In either case, I think you're greatly exaggerating the size of version updates and assets in this game. It is a game from 2001, textures are very low res, 3D models are very low poly. A ton of gear models and textures are reused for multiple pieces of gear. All of the NNI gear uses the exact same models and textures as stuff that already existed in the game, for example. With the entire current game + the upcoming expansion on one Wii-U disc, you probably wouldn't need anywhere near the 8 GB available on standard model consoles for two years worth of updates. Also, considering the huge amount of small files that FF11 operates with, a half-decent SD memory card would probably outperform a regular HDD.
It will cost the same as any other external hard drive. You don't have to use a special one approved by nintendo or anything like that, the only carveat is any drive you use must be formatted for your specific console and can't be moved to another one or used on a PC without reformatting.
Games do work on the external drives- If you don't have the deluxe set, it's the only way to play downloaded disc games.
SD cards are actually only used for extra data created by games, stuff for original Wii like WiiWare/virtual console games, and things like images created in Mii Maker. There is a trick to use them for download storage though- you can use one of those USB SD card readers that looks similar to a USB memory key, for instance. I don't know why it doesn't let you use the SD slot on the console for this purpose though- it's used for that purpose on every other nintendo system with an SD card slot (wii, 3DS)The console can use regular memory cards. You must be confusing it with the Xbox 360.
