    Aytanri Testing

    Greetings!

A fellow adventurer put in some hard work to test out the effect of Aytanri and received a reply that I thought you might all be interested in reading.

A long time ago I saw on someone's blog that "occasionally the damage increased enough to where it was noticeable" so there is a possibility that there is a bug from some version update that is causing this not to happen anymore. Please check on this.
    Thanks for the report.

I checked on this and also did some testing of my own, but the effects seem to behaving normally and I could not find any problems.

The attack power modifier for Aytanri's increased damage changes a lot depending on the target being attacked and the difference in your level. If there is a big difference between your levels, the proportion of the attack power and defense power will hit the cap and there are cases where attack power won't cause much of a difference in damage. This is what I think the problem is.

Oppositely, if the level of the target is high and stronger than you are, the boon of the attack power modifier will be higher, so please try and experiment with higher level monsters.

As a reference, I will write the results of the testing that I performed.

    • Character level 99 Attack 460 Defense 1067
    • I compared damage during normal attacks and when the effect activated on 3 types of monsters with level differences. (I ignored the minor fluctuations and used constant damage values for this test)
    1. When the target is much weaker than you (Level difference +79)
Target Monster: Crane Fly (Meriphataud Mountains, Level 20)
      Normal: 188 damage
      Activated Effect: 188 damage

    2. When the target is weaker than you (Level difference +19)
Monster: Aw'ghrah (The Garden of Ru'Hmet, Level 80)
      Normal: 118 damage
      Activated Effect: 184 damage

    3. When the target is stronger than you (Level difference -6)
Monster: Mourning Crawler (The Boyahda Tree, Level 105)
      Normal: 69 damage
      Activated Effect: 139 damage

Cliff Notes for people who don't like reading long posts or looking at numbers:

An item that occasionally increases one's attack occasionally produces a noticeable effect when one's attack isn't already capped.

Aytanri's additional effect remains pointless, as someone is far more likely to have ~1067 Attack and ~460 Defense than the 460 Attack and 1067 Defense used for testing purposes.

The part of me that enjoys magical thinking has a notion that Oriole is the same guy who tested Cloudsplitter and said it was okie-dokie-hunky-dory, just because both things involve one-handed axes. Thus, I imagine him producing an aura of palpable evil in real life whenever his character equips a one-handed axe in Final Fantasy XI. This aura kills small birds such as canaries and triggers depressive episodes in humans.

Camate, could you possibly check in to find out why tourbillion's additional affect only lands on rare occasions? I would have thought its m.acc to be closer to benethic typhoon seeing as how its an Unbridled spell. I've commented (and many other Blue) on other threads but to no avail. Is this spell supposed to have terrible m.acc or is it a glitch? Thank you for your reply (in advance).
