Crafting bugs

I've had this happen a bunch of times on separate occasions. The synthesis immediately fails, and gives the message "Synthesis interrupted. You lost the crystal and materials you were using." I am crafting in town, nothing is being cast on me or done to me. I have never had this happen until lately. Sometimes it happens several times in a row.

Selected water crystal, selected venom dust and mercury. Hit OK to synthesize. The synthesis immediately fails, and gives the message "Synthesis interrupted. You lost the crystal and materials you were using." Nothing is being cast or used on me, nor am I interacting with anything. I can see no reason why it should be interrupted.
