Internet speed and data usage

Hello, i was wondering if anyone could give me some info on what's an ok speed for playing final fantasy xi. is 3 mbps ok? Also how much data does ffxi use up in a month, i will most likely be doing a data plan up to 150 gigs.
(the place im going to be getting internet from pretty much has a stranglehold on options in my town)

Some of the other options i can pick from is a 15 mbps plan but it costs a lot more and has 250gigsworth of data usage in its plan.

That is both way above the requirements for FFXI. FFXI was designed with the 56kbps era in mind, so that will work without issues. And it uses very little data, you'd be fine with 1GB, easily.

Internet speed does not really matter for FF11. During use, my client uses something like 7-15 kB/s t most.

Actually, running through a crowded port jeuno, my resource monitor never showed POL to use more than 2.1 kB/s.

awesome thanks for the info lol I would hate to buy into a bigger internet plan that i dont need, i usually only use my internet for news, facebok and ffxi and some of my other online games ^^ I should also mention i plan on pulling 6-8 hours a day give or take 3 or so hours both ways. lol i live in a small town not much to do so i keep to myself hang with my friends and work ahaha.

Assuming 800 bytes/second, you'd be unlikely to spend more than 20 MB per day on FF11 then, and even that is an overestimation. 30 days of that would mean 600 MB in a month. However, you usually sit at a much lower average network utilization than 800B/s. Whenever you don't see anyone around and aren't fighting huge amounts of enemies, you'll be using probably less than 500B/s.

All in all, I doubt you'd use more than 500 MB/month on FF11, assuming 7 hours on average every single day of the month. If you only play that much for 20 days a month, you're down to below 400 already.

In-game, FFXI is capped at 7-8 kilobytes per second. PlayOnline Viewer can download updates faster than that though, and patching the game from a fresh install can be several gigabytes.

Wow, a limit that low? Comcast removed their 250 GB/month usage limit they had early this year, in that it hadn't been raised in the past 5 years but internet speeds had increased. I'm on an unlimited use 1 Mbps line, and I use 300+ GB per month. My internet conection runs everything in my house. Just buying games on Steam uses a lot of bandwidth because they are all downloaded. Microsoft updates every week also contribute.
