When you're new to the game, I would suggest, as people have already mentioned, selling crystals, and also perhaps stacks of crystal clusters. Certain cluster stacks sell for up to 60k on my server. Other things to be on the lookout for are various types of geodes. Flame geodes sell for a lot of money, and some of the others also sell for enough for it to be worth selling on the AH.

When you get enough beastman seals to do Royal Jelly (you need 40 per attempt), that thing can drop some scrolls that sell for several million gil on my server. However, getting 40 Bseals takes a bit of time with the current alliance-based fast leveling. Monchat is right in that it requires some luck, but over several runs, the chance of having gotten at least one valuable scroll is relatively good. On my server, Utsusemi: Ni sells for 1.4 millions now, and Phalanx sells for 1.6M. Each Royal Jelly gives you roughly one 15% chance to get Phalanx, and two chances to get Utsu: Ni at ~11% and 18%. Even if you don't get the best drops, RJ still has a few "consolation prizes" in the form of a few items that sell at 30-100k gil, and Absorb-STR which sells for about 450k. All prices are taken from the Sylph AH.

Other than that, stuff like silk threads from crawlers are kind of valuable. Crafting can be profitable, but it will be a long time until you see a lot of money from that. It is better to think of that as a long term investment, might not be the best thing to get into for a brand new player who has a limited income.
